100% recommend Gulfstream Fishing, Inc!
Everything was easy and simple to understand - from online reservations, directions, check-in, and instructions all the way through getting back to the dock, having our fish filleted, and giving recommendations on where we could take it to have it cooked for us.
The crew was very knowledgeable especially for fishing location for the specific time of year. We couldn't have ended up in a better spot, the fish were biting all day. The crew kept our bait buckets full and made sure our rods/reels were working by properly and were quick to fix any issues (such as tying on a new hook after loosing one on the bottom of the ocean - they were also very good at getting lines unstuck - some passengers needed that a lot more than others, they were patient and always available to help). They also effortlessly removed all of our fish from the hook, easily kept track of who's fish were who's, & were skilled at filleting. The almost 300 fish our boat caught were prepped and bagged for us in no time.
The crew was super friendly and took extra time with my youngest (9) when he was struggling, which made it enjoyable for him too. Even let him try/use a different type of reel to see if he could get the hang of it a little better (& he did!)
Other information: Bathrooms are available at the marina Plenty of free parking at the marina Meet at the boat's slip number, not the main marina building It's recommended to arrive 30 min prior to trip time - you should definitely arrive 30 min prior to trip time. They use that 30 min to check everyone in, go over all the required safety information, get you on the boat, and time to stow whatever you brought with you. We pulled away from the dock at exactly the time we were scheduled to leave & returned the same. I really enjoyed that this trip was 6 hours instead of 4, like I was seeing a lot of others. The hour travel each way out to the fishing spot seemed pretty standard from other reviews I read, which means on a 4 hour trip you are only getting ~2 hours to fish, we were able to fish for almost 4 hours. There are also 2 bathrooms on the boat (separate men & womens) From looking online, some boats include snacks, soda, etc with your booking price - however, they all seem to cost a lot (sometimes hundreds $$$) more. Gulfstream Fishing Inc has soda, snacks (crackers, cookies, chips) available for purchase for $1 per item (cash but Venmo is also available). For the amount saved on the trip cost itself, I could have probably bought every snack/soda they had onboard and still not have spent as much as some other boats/trips. I would recommend bringing a small cooler with you with your own drinks & snacks. Once you eat/drink you will then have somewhere to store your caught fish afterwards. They even have an ice machine at the dock if you need it to keep your fish cold. They hold a fish pool which is $5 per person and the winner receives the pot at the end of the trip. This is cash only so don't forget cash if you want to join. The boat has an open galley if you want to relax out of the sun for a bit. The galley also has benches with cushions to sit. There are wooden benches around the galley on the outside to sit on while you are traveling and/or taking a break from fishing, they are not very comfortable but serve their purpose. The deck over the galley (that you can see in photos online) is not able to be used, although I don't think we would have anyway, we were having too much fun fishing. After arriving back at the dock, the water right next to where the crew cleans the fish was full of Tarpon and even some Nurse Sharks (there to take advantage of the scraps of fish that were tossed in to the water) - a pretty cool ending to such an awesome day!
My family & I had such an amazing time. This experience really brought out my boys (11 & 9) love for fishing, they're already begging to go out again to fish.
I can't say enough good things about this experience & definitely recommend to anyone that's planning a...
Read moreLong time party boat and recreational “Florida “ fisherman. Relocated to Idaho post Navy career. Reached out to Gulfstream a couple of times prior to my group of four arrival to stress that I was a Florida cracker coming back with family to fish and would appreciate an emphasis on grouper and snapper. I want to say that I’m not a hard ass but when we got on the boat a couple of old locals camped out on the stern to tie it up. Not cool. Second, all the reels were for right hand cranks. I asked the captain and deckhand Ryan for a left handed level wind reel and they told me they didn’t have any. I asked why wouldn’t a boat this size have “one” left crank level wind. They just dismissed me and said they’re too expensive. (Horsecrap) ! They blew as much smoke as possible to cut the conversation short. So I’m left to my own devices. We start fishing and it’s very difficult for me to reel because I have a hairline fracture on my left wrist so holding the deep sea pole in my left hand is killing me. Again, I ask for one of the 15 left handed “spinning reels “ throughout the boat and I am dismissed. Really disheartening! The captain offered several woman if they would like to fish with the spinning rods but not this disabled veteran. Any hoot, the tourists were catching dinks (small fish) and ignorantly happy about it. I had told Ryan ahead or time I didn’t want any trash fish “no grunts, dinky strawberry grouper, etc” I came all the way from Idaho for some meat fish. So, what trash fish our group caught we gave to the “boat” . Bottom line: the crew was nice enough but didn’t really validate my concerns or wants. Definitely a reflection of the “corporate culture” Oh, crew kept saying that the commercial gear costs a lot of money and the owners spend money on quality gear…….. Crap! See attached photos of the rusty pole grommets. Spend the extra money and charter a boat For 6....
Read moreI edited my review from a 5 to a 4 because my family and I tried to book a second trip and it went pretty terribly. We arrived at 9:30 for the 10am boat, and they had us wait around for half an hour before casually saying “the boat hasn’t been working the trip is canceled.” No apologies, no warnings, no concern for our lost time. Other people said they had the same thing happen yesterday where the boat wouldn’t start, and yet they still allowed people to book the boat with their boat still not fixed. We got refunded but because of their lack of communication and transparency we were unable to book a different fishing boat for the day instead. I believe they knew full well that their boat wasn’t functional and wanted people to buy spots on the boat anyway, hoping they would secure people for a different day. The whole thing really rubbed my family and I the wrong way.
Regardless, here’s my original review: This is the one of the best fishing boat in the lower Keys!! The price is extremely affordable, the fishing is great, captain Jamie is the nicest guy ever and he will make sure to move the boat around to the best spots whenever the bite slows down. He also helps the mates, interacts with the crew, and he’s very generous and accommodating. The mates work hard and joke around, and they’re very quick, and very competent. The fishing is fantastic. My family and I went fishing here and kept about 32 snappers between the 4 of us, and caught about twice as much fish total. The boat caught its limit and by the end we were throwing mangroves back. My brother caught a huge blacktip reef shark. The whole boat was catching fish left and right, and the crew could barely keep up! It was so much fun we had to book it again. There’s no better way to spend a day...
