US Bank Tower is decorated in a mid century modern vibe, with a fine dining restaurant, 71 Above, on the 71st floor (natch!), which, at almost 1,000 above ground level, is the highest restaurant of west of the Mississippi. I'll be reviewing it in the future. There is also a lovely coffee bar in the lobby, a sandwich and coffee bar (Batavia) on the second floor with the nicest lady behind the counter, and an upper plaza where there is TE Isshoku, a takeout sushi window. And coming soon, a bar in the lobby, yay! The concierges are all friendly and helpful, and after taking care of business, I always stop by the front desk for a wee chat. I would have given the tower 5 stars, but the escalator has been under repair for a year, and it is eight flights up the stairs to the top plaza area, and that is a problem if one wants to visit TE Isshoku, or take a shortcut to 4th Street. Altogether a pleasant place, for coffee, lunch, dinner, and soon, cocktails...
Read moreBack when the Skyspace was still included in the US Bank building, it was quite an amazing adventure, albeit quite pricey when you have a large group. The elevator ride up 70 floors was exciting all on its own. We recorded our own hit music, went down the terrifying 70th story slide, had purple flower cocktails, and took far too many selfies. The 360° view from up there is awe-inspiring. The helicopters were flying right by us and all the helipads were below us. I hope something like this will come back to replace the exceptionally fun...
Read moreThe renovated space is light, airy and gorgeous. It's right next to huge DTLA intersections, the grand library and bike racks, so extremely convenient as a starting point for tourists. In fact, the local guide is right outside the doors at the bottom of the steps. Security is tight so you'll need help accessing the top floors for the restaurant or visiting the numerous small businesses that rent room here.
The interior of the floor I've visited is strangely shaped like the outside - tiny corners and window nooks turned into rooms....
