I’ve been there 10-15 times and spent around $5k for designer items. You can find good deals, but mostly they have overpriced, not in good condition items and especially in men’s clothing there are some fakes. The vibe is weird and they have attitude. Also the music is so loud and the pretty bad sound quality giving you a headache. So..to the point. The only reason I decided to write this review is because of my today’s experience. It’s the first time in my life a sales assistant tried to fooled me. I was there 30 minutes ago, at the front desk, paying for a bag and a Fendi dress.($500) They usually have lots of alarms on the expensive clothes. So I asked the girl in the front if I could check the fabric for holes after she removed the alarms. She said yes and showed me the side seam. Everything seemed ok, no holes or marks. While I was waiting her to count the money I took the dress myself and checked the side seam. And at that moment i saw the holes on the fabric from the alarms and realised that she tried to played me before, by showing me the other side of the dress. Of course I asked for refund. And of course she never admitted that she showed me the other side. She even told me that those are not holes..it’s the fabric.! So people be careful with them. For those who don’t know, this store does not accept returns. (Only if you done authenticity check on the item you bought and have proof that it’s fake.) So If I hadn’t check it myself before leaving the store, I could not be able to return it. I’m putting photo of the sale receipt and the refund.
Update 8/5 Thanks for the response to my review
It’s true I didn’t mentioned the 10% discount on the bag because has nothing to do with what happened with the dress. I asked for a better price on the bag before anything happened, before I even finish shopping. The reason I asked for a better deal is because the bag you were selling as new, without tags, protecting paper/stickers or dust bag (or any responsibility after purchasing) was on sale online, for $10 more, at one of the biggest online stores, brand new full set with free deliver/ returns and also coverage for defective items. I told that to the girl that helped me. So the discount it’s a different story.
Also you said that I failed to mention the material of the dress. And it’s true. But there is a huge difference between holes from the alarms on the side seam and the design of the fabric even if it’s mesh...
Read moreI’ve been selling to the various wasteland locations since 2010. Every other business I sell to remembers my name and thanks me for bringing in my items. Not at Wasteland Melrose. The buyers here are consistently condescending in their attitude, not to mention they wanted to pay me $23 for a vintage Oliver Theyskens 1998 lamb leather clasp closure detailed jacket. Out of all the items I brought in to sell, this is the only piece they wanted to bring in which was a waste of the 45 min I spent waiting for my turn. I don’t usually post negative reviews but today I had to share my experience. Go to the real real or Squaresville (for vintage) instead. They will give good customer service to the sellers as well as a fair price without insulting the seller who has taken time out of their day to bring in their pieces. Additionally, I shopped their racks while I was waiting to sell and found nothing that inspired me, just mostly polyurethane pieces and outdated denim styles. Perhaps it’s time for me to shop somewhere else and accept that the Wasteland I used to love is just over.
Update: jacket priced at $148 by the real real, seller split is 30% at that price point. So I got nearly twice as much for my item by taking it to the real real. While there are challenges to selling at the real real, and wasteland does have same-day payment, I find that higher-end items pay a much bigger split than at wasteland if you are an experienced seller who doesn’t want to run your own shop and are willing to give a cut to a consignment or resale shop and wait a few weeks for the payout. It is definitely worth the superior customer service experience to sell to a knowledgeable staff with a clear set of brand guidelines. The real real increases the percentage paid out relative to the sale price of an item. So if you think you’ll only sell something at the real real’s 30% payout price point or below, take it to crossroads because that’s their flat rate payout percentage. Price points at wasteland used to be higher than crossroads and they used to pay 35% cash and 50% trade. Now there is no trade AND they slashed the payout to 30%. Basically, it’s better to go...
Read moreI gave a 1 Star for the sellers.
They only accept luxury designers and provide you with 35% of their marked price. (Brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton) I would recommend selling your luxury items to Gift of Garb or Recess where it’s under consignment- you get 50% (up to 70% for select designers), they have higher markups, and a client base that is following their selected designers which influences gaurenteed sales.
I just went to Wasteland for the first time to sell and they told me they do not take any of these brands. (Doesn’t matter if there are tags attached, 98% of the stuff I had still had tags attached.)
THEY DO NOT TAKE THE FOLLOWING BRANDS:
Tadashi Shoji Ellie Tahari Theory Pedro Garcia Tory Burch Michael Kors Marc Jacobs Sam Edelman BCBG Roberto Cavalli Nina Ricci
I walked in with at least $4,000 worth of items with tags still attached and they told me they don’t take these brands.
Don’t waste your time here. Go to a consignment shop with your designer stuff- plus they treat you way better at shops that primarily only take Louis Vuitton, Tom Ford, Gucci, and Prada.
They treat the sellers like garbage.
Lol if I’m going to sell my Bottaga Veneta, I’m going to someone who will treat me with respect and dignity and is wearing...
