I don't recall ever writing a negative review, for a local business that is owned by women of color, especially a business I have frequented regularly. It's especially difficult to do so as a WOC on a mother's day weekend. I am still trying to articulate the frustration of receiving a poor service at a local business in Maple Grove and seeing white women receive a significantly better service for the same experience on the same day at the very same time. We were a group of 6 South Asian ladies who booked a session for Manicure, Pedicure and Nail art at Nails and Spa on May 9th Thursday. We had reserved our time slot at least a week back. The group was excited to get pampered. We were a bit skeptical when they said that our group would be in and out in two hours. We showed up on time and the entire process from the start to finish was a series of unfortunate events. First, the entire group was rushed at the check in and we could see the manager Ellen getting visibly irritated because some of the members in our group were taking some time to look at the colors and asking questions. Then we were ushered to our pedicure sessions. Everyone of us had a very poor experience with their respective pedicures. The Bomb Pedicure spa, which normally takes 80 to 90 minutes was wrapped up in 50 minutes and the dead skin and callus removal step, though advertised was not done. There was no cuticle removal, oil application and the paraffin treatment was done for a grand total of 5 minutes. I have done the bomb spa before and I remember a vastly different experience. They advertised this treatment as the longest massage and I was the first person in my group who was done with her pedicure. The rest of the group were also dissatisfied with the dead skin removal, scrubbing and cuticle removal part of their pedicure. When our group was getting their treatment done there were other customers waiting for their turns. Those patrons were seated and they were given a much more thorough service. Two of those ladies chose Bomb spa and they were in their seats for upwards of 90 minutes. Two other ladies chose Pearl Pedicure and they were there for 90 minutes. It's a bit jarring to be discriminated by fellow women of color. One of the nail technician was incredibly rude as well. My friend asked her nail artist couple of questions about her nail art, the process and the products. The reply she got was " Come and follow me for a week and you will learn it". this is just one of the snarky comments thrown at ome of us. Once the group got done and paid, we told the person on desk we were very unhappy with our experience. We didn't even receive an apology but we're told that we would get 10 USD off the next time we came. We declined the discount because we don't think we want to visit them again. Not to mention, she thought she could compensate for $60-80 worth of pedicure by this meagre amount, expecting us to come back and spend another $60 ! To the people managing Nails and Spa, do better. And if someone says that they feel that the service doesn't match what is advertised, at least listen instead of giving us 10 USD discount and rushing...
Read moreAfter using this salon for 6+ years, I will no longer step foot in there or recommend to anyone. This salon is no longer Maple Grove’s top nail salon. I’ve noticed the service going downhill for over a year now. I kept giving “one more chance” after several manicures that lasted less than a week. I was talked into a dipping powder that would supposedly last 3+ weeks- same thing. One week later chipped and peeling. I’ve made appointments to try to ensure that I wouldn’t have to wait; only to sit and wait 20+ plus minutes snd watch others go ahead of me. I brought it to the attention of Kathy the owner on Mother’s Day when I had a 10:15 appointment snd waited over 25 min, she FINALY started our treatments but was rude, unfriendly and cold to me. There were times I didn’t bring cash. They would ask me to Venmo and say it’s for food in the comments. Is this legal? This past Tues 7/12/22 I went in wanting a gel manicure. Kathy was sitting on the chairs in front on her phone. She didn’t acknowledge me. I picked out my color and waited a couple of minutes. Still no acknowledgement from Kathy sitting right in front of me as well as any of the other nail girls. I walked out. I don’t think I’ve ever been treated so poorly at a place of business. They no longer give quality manicures or customer service.not to mention unprofessional. Needing my nails done ASAP, I quickly went on Facebook to the Maple Grove Community page to find recommendations. I read many entries of people who had similar complaints about Nails and Spa. Thankfully I found a salon that came highly recommended. It was clean, professional and offers a 10 day guarantee on nails. They are that good! *The owner messaged me on Facebook apparently after seeing this review asking me to call her to discuss;; stating “client satisfaction is the ultimate goal.” Not interested in discussing but only wanting to know WHY I was treated so poorly; satisfaction CLEARLY is not the goal, because again, NO acknowledgement. She never bothered answering me. I would have considered...
Read moreI just moved to Maple Grove and this place had wonderful reviews so I wanted to check it out! I needed a gel manicure and a pedicure with regular polish, one artificial nail and a cutdown. I did get the pearl pedicure and the total was $113.00.
Ellen did my pedicure and she was extremely sweet and I saw it on her name tag she is also the manager. I was a little shocked when I came for my appointment at 10 o’clock and she was actually getting her nails done so I did have to wait a little bit until she got her own nails finished and then she had somebody else set upthe pedicure bowl and by the time that she got to me, my water was cold. I did not say anything about any of this when I was at the visit because I did not want any confrontation so I just continued to have my service.
The pearl pedicure was $60 and I’m not sure what I paid extra for. The massage itself felt really good, but I did not feel like it was any longer, I do know this one didn’t include the callus remover which and all the other lower price pedicures that that is an additional seven dollars, so that’s why I chose to get the pearl because I wanted the callus remover included. I also have no idea why the water was green lol? Ellen was extremely pleasant and did mention some grocery stores that I could go to and so I don’t want to discredit that But The painting on my toes is not how I would like to have left a salon, but once Ellen was done with my pedicure, another lady did my manicure, and I did not feel comfortable asking her to fix it.
Gel Manicure was nice, but I felt extremely rushed, and the lady got an attitude with me when I was talking about the shaping of the nails. She also should’ve went over the prices that it would be for me to get the artificial nail and the cut down, but that was never mentioned.
Overall I would not go back and I would not recommend to anyone. For the most part, everybody was nice and the salon itself was very pretty, but based off the quality of the work, I would...
