I was interrupted during my workout and instructed to call the health insurance company âRight Nowâ. I arrived at the gym, scanned my card, and received the green light. Fifteen minutes later, I was interrupted during my work out by this man saying that he called the active & fit program, and I no longer have the active & fit benefit. He asked me if I wanted the number to call them, and I said yes. He got me the number and told me to call âRight Nowâ to find out what was going on. I went to the restroom completely embarrassed because the gym employee treated me like that in front of other members, I got my backpack in the locker and when I was leaving the gym, the guy repeated audibly in front of other gym members that there was a problem with my membership. I got home, and the first thing that I checked was the charge from active & fit on my credit card, and it was charged as usually as an autopay. I called the active & fit program, and they are trying to find out what happened. But, this is the situation: I am the customer, I had the membership charged on my card, and I am using a benefit that I am eligible for, in a Gym that participates on the active & fit program, and I was treated like a criminal. How could I be treated that way, in front of other members, for someone that appears to be the least qualified person to take care of the situation? With so many Fitness Clubs in this neighborhood, with a better price, I think itâs time to look for a place where the employees treat us like customers, not like criminals. Whatever problem happened with the active & fit program and your company is not my fault. I could have had a better treatment, maybe even have finished my workout, and then have the situation explained to me. I felt disrespected and insulted by your employee. I hope other people donât have to go through what just...
Read moreMy partner and I utilized this gym while on vacation and had a moderately pleasant experience. The facility is quite large with many options for equipment and the locker rooms were well kept. I didnt utilize the sauna in the locker room but i thought it was very neat it was offered. I also appreciate the variety of merchandise available and the prices for the items. My only downfalls while visiting here were 2 concerns, 1. I found that it was difficult to tell who was staff unless they were behind the counter, and not one staff offered to show us round which imo I found odd (I'm not sure if this is how all American gyms function but in Alberta I've always been asked if I wanted a tour/pointers on equipment). On my last trip there as I was perusing merchandise one of their trainers began his sales pitch by asking me what i did for work and then procedded in telling me he noticed how poor my posture was and that it was most likely due to my job and that he wanted to offer his personal training services. Again I'm not sure if this is how things are done in the USA but it put me off ( also made me a bit self conscious as someone with "medium sized" breasts any woman knows a bigger chest effects how we carry ourselves) and I feel as though there had to have been a better way to approach someone you're wanting to help with their health.
Overall I will be returning to this place if I vacation in Kihei again and was happy with the place but there were a few areas I guess I could see room for...
Read moreUpdated 4/24/25 - I'm still loving Maui Powerhouse Gym! I've been cycling for nearly five years, and I truly appreciate Diane's 6:45 a.m. classes. She brings such a positive, inclusive vibe to every session. Her rides are the perfect mix of motivation and fun, and having five chances a week to ride with her makes it easy to stay consistent. I highly recommend checking out one of her classes!
Maui Powerhouse Gym is by far the best gym Iâve belonged to. Here is why they rate so high for me:
The owners, employees, instructors, and trainers are some of the nicest people Iâve encountered in a fitness environment.
MPHGâs mix of traditional weight-lifting and cardio equipment coupled with instructor-led classes makes this a full-service fitness center. The cycling classes are amazing and Power 45 (P-45) kicks my a** in the best possible way. And there are many other class options.
The owners are continually reinvesting in the facility. In the three years Iâve been a member, they have upgraded the indoor cycling studio with new bikes, sound, lights, and more. They have painted, renovated the restrooms, added new tech, hired new instructors, and provided more value at the front desk with beverages and swag for purchase.
MPHG is a great local business that is continuing to grow and improve. They request, and listen to, member feedback which is greatly...
