Better communication: I asked for a quote for ceramic coating, sales rep reviewed my vehicle and provided a quote, indicating anything with paint would be coated, non-painted material wouldn’t, and then I accepted. We made arrangements for me to drop off my truck at 3pm and was told it would be ready the following morning and I would be getting a call when ready to pick up.
Approximately 2hrs after I dropped off my truck, I was notified that the truck would need to be claybarred due to some substance identified. The person who called mentioned that the sales person failed to pick up upon it and should have asked a detailer to review it. Off to a questionable start...since I washed the truck myself a few hours prior and I didn’t see anything, but I leaned toward the technicians expert opinion. I agreed to $150 additional charge.
The following morning, I received no call so at 1:54pm I called to get an update. I was told that the truck is still being worked on, roughly an hour of work left to be done and I would be called back in about a 1/2hr to discuss pickup time.
At 4:02pm I called the store since I haven’t received a phone call. When I asked about the status of my truck, I was told it should be done in about an hour. I mentioned that this was what I was told 2hrs prior and then was told that they’d get the entire detailing team to complete the truck and would get a call in 1/2hr to get a progress update. I did get the call back at 4:39pm and notified that the truck was ready for pickup and when I arrive their team would walk with me to review the work.
I paid for the work at 5:51pm, nobody walked with me as discussed. I reviewed the truck, parked underneath a tree where birds had pooped on the doors hoods. The tonneau cover was dirty and their was a white chalky wipe mark that was left for review. Overall the ceramic coating looked good at initial review in the sun, but when I pulled it into my garage a noticed a few rub marks marks that appeared to be incomplete polishing. Not being an expert I wasn’t sure if it was dust, so I plan on washing the truck and then will look at it afterwards to evaluate if something needs to be reworked.
Note: none of the ceramic coating was installed at the rocker panels and door openings and even though we it was discussed that all painted areas probably meant exterior only, it’s a small thing to note it when...
Read moreI've used Car Toys in the past, and despite being expensive, they did a good job with installation and equipment. I went in recently to have some stereo equipment installed at the McKinney location. I called ahead of course to make an appointment. They require a fairly substantial deposit to make an appointment now, just FYI. They call me a day before the appointment to ask if I still want to come in. I said yes. Guy on the phone says he sees my deposit, but no appointment was scheduled, that's why they were calling. Took him 20 minutes, talking to someone else, and a call back to get it all figured out. Basically, he took the deposit and the info, but never scheduled the appointment in their system. When I arrive for my appointment, my installer isn't available, so another guy helps me out, no biggie. He manages to upsell me on a wiring kit and another item. Probably didn't need it, but the equipment was better, although overpriced. Anyway, no gun to my head to make the purchase, my decision. I saw in the reviews that someone said they paid 600 hundred bucks to get a 200 hundred dollar camera installed. My experience is definitely in line with this---Lots of random, nebulous terms like, "shop fee" "miscellaneous labor", etc. Multiple of each of these depending on what you are having done. Undefined, but probably standard fees for whatever is being installed even if it only takes 10 minutes to install a pair of speakers, you're getting charged the 210 bucks for the standard installation price. A few hours later, my car is ready. I notice my speaker in the back is not secured down. Guy says he ran out of velcro to secure the box to the trunk floor and tells me what kind I can get to install it myself. Really?! Additionally, inside of the car was not cleaned up well. Lots of cut wire, smudge marks, fingerprints, dirt, dust, etc. Whole experience just left me unimpressed, especially for the money involved. I'll look elsewhere if I ever need car stereo components installed...
Read moreI really don't got many nice things to say so I'm going to start with the positives. It's card who is so they got a wide selection of whatever you need and the staff for the most part is pretty friendly. Now for the bad and it's a pretty big one I don't think I'll ever be bringing my car into any car toys ever or even buying parts from them anymore after this experience. I was having issues getting my stereo to work with my Mitsubishi 3000GT I bought a harness and everything from that store and try to hook it up myself turns out I wired it correctly but it still wasn't turn it on for whatever reason. I bring it to them and they have this guy with green hair come out look at the car for about 5 to 10 minutes and tells me they would have to charge me a hundred and twenty bucks just to even look at it and they wouldn't even be able to guaranteed that it would work when they hook it up. So I truly do appreciate him letting me know he didn't think he was able to get the job done or maybe he was just feeling lazy I don't know the issue is when I took it to the very next store. I took it to Best Buy in Allen I showed them how far along my process and everything was and what he said and they literally laughed and put it in for free for how far along I was and if there were any complications and if it wouldn't be a quick fix they would put it in for 60!!!!! And I know car toys actually specializes in vehicles so I don't know if he was trying to like put me on a game and just make me waste my money or if he didn't know how to do the job or if he was just feeling lazy I don't know but regardless I didn't get a good vibe to the next place they did it for free when this place told me they'd even know if they were able to do it. Not that the man with green hair was rude or anything like that it was nice had good customer service but it just after that experience I'm definitely never taking my car in there to have it worked on I might buy something there but that's all I...
