I brought my iPhone 7 in yesterday to have the glass screen replaced. When I returned to the store an hour later the repaired phone was ready. Upon inspecting the phone I noticed the new glass was slightly, but very noticeably raised above the edges all around the phone. I asked why this was and was informed this "was normal" because the glass panels they use have a bezel and that Apple does not provide original OEM screens to repair shops. I gently press down around the screen and in one section, the screen popped down in place. They tell me this "was normal" and most people don't mind or notice "the pops". In reality, the phone was given to me with the screen not fully in place. The "bezel" around the edges still remained. He informed me that the ridge around the phone was due to leaving the water proofing seal in place on the iPhone 7 to maintain "some of the water resistance" of the phone. So, now after the repair is made, they inform me that the glass will not fit like stock, the screen may pop/move, and the phone will no longer be water resistant. No disclosures about any of this prior to having the repair initiated.
At this point I leave the store not feeling very satisfied and wishing I had gone to the Apple store and paid just a little bit more to have the repair done with genuine OEM parts. But it gets worse. About 5 minutes later I notice a blueish spot on the LCD screen about the size of the home button, that was not there before. This was completely unacceptable. I returned right back to the store and showed the spot. I was informed that this was because the frame of the phone was very slightly bent/damaged and they could possibly "bend it back" to fix the issue. I closely inspected every angle of the phone and could not see any frame bending. I was disappointed that the phone was returned to me with an obvious defect and he told me that it takes a "few hours" for the phone to "warm up" before the spot appears. I reminded him I picked up the repaired phone about 5 minutes ago.
I reluctantly relinquish my phone to have the spot fixed. To CPR's credit, it was 20 minutes to closing and they got my second repair in immediately before closing.
About 20 minutes later the second repair was returned to me. The spot was gone and the glass fit much better around the edges of the phone, almost no raised ridge... I guess the previous repair wasn't actually "normal" as I was told.
After returning home and using the phone for a couple minutes I immediately noticed the new screen colors were not as vibrant as before. I compared to my wife's iPhone 7 and the difference was obvious. I also noticed the refresh rate was lower. When scrolling between the home screens the icons appear to blur and smear, when scrolling up and down there is ghosting and blurring. It is clear to me that the replacement LCD's that are used are not up to the quality of Apple OEM.
Overall, the customer service person was passably friendly and accommodating besides never remembering my name. But definitely had a canned answer for every issue that was risen. I did not feel like he was being straight with me or accepting any responsibility for the repair issues, it felt disingenuous.
Next time I will make the longer drive to the Apple Store and pay just slightly more to have the repair done with genuine Apple parts. Some people may not notice the differences and just be happy to have a phone without a cracked screen. But do not expect a CPR repair phone to be...
Read moreTLDR: Three month old phone screen replacement has discolorations and their quality control and fix was non existent.
Customer service was not bad. They were friendly and communicated well with me about my phone.
I had my three month old Moto X Pure edition screen replaced by this business. They were about $20 cheaper than any other cell phone repair company, so I decided I would give them a try. Motorola was going to charge me $199 to repair my phone and I would have had to ship it to them. In hindsight I should have done this.
I dropped my phone off at CPR on a Saturday and I left it there until Friday because I was working out of town. On Wednesday I got a phone call saying a cable that controls the flash and power/volume buttons was damaged. I was curious how this would have been damaged by a broken screen since the cable is located on the opposite side of the screen. (I checked the tear down pictures) I authorized them to get the cable. I wanted my phone back and it was $15. They didn't end up charging me for the cable. I picked my phone up on Friday. The man at the register peeled off the protective film from the new screen and handed me my phone. I quickly looked at the screen and noticed a light colored dot in the upper left corner. I thought it was part of the background, so I quickly dismissed it.
After I got home and used my phone so more, I noticed the spot was still there and more noticeable on a white or black background. It was quite an annoyance when looking at webpages or watching movies or videos. I called CPR the next weekend as I was out of town again for work. I spoke with one of their employees and described my problem. He told me to bring it down so they could take a look. I drove the 45 minutes to CPR to have them take a look. I showed him the discoloration in the two spots. He mentioned that it might be tension from the screws holding the screen to the frame. It was under warranty, so he agreed to fix it. He mentioned that this phone was not a popular phone and they might have to cease from working on them like other phones that are problematic to repair. I thought it was great they were taking care of me.
Today I picked up my phone. I powered the screen on and didn't notice the issue. I thought it was fixed. The work was free since it was under warranty. I slid my phone in my pocket and went on my way. I stopped to get some lunch and while using my phone I noticed the spots were less visible, but still there. I finished my lunch and returned to CPR since I was right down the road. I was greeted by another employee and got him caught up on my situation. He told me he was the tech who worked on my phone. I showed him the issue was still there. He said they replaced the screen and that it was an issue with the frame. I could either live with the discolorations in the screen or I could pay more money to replace the frame. I decided it was going to be cheaper to live with the discolorations.
In the end I got a replacement screen with discolorations and a bit of wasted time and gas driving back and forth. I wish their quality control was better. I would think twice about using this cell phone repair company if you have a device is...

Anyway, as eventually happens my screen was cracked. Assurant Insurance just outright sucks. Instead of referring me to the NEAREST CPR Phone repair by my zip code they sent me to the nearest CPR phone repair that had the screen "in stock" according to their computer system. This location was literally 1 hour away from my house, and I complained that I was not going to waste 2 hours (More, if you count the wait time) of my life to drive that far away. Their next solution was to offer me a replacement phone instead, but the price went up from $29 screen repair to $99 deductible. They would not even send someone to my house like Asurion does. I was mad, and went back and forth with Assurant for days.
Out of desperation I called CPR Phone Repair in Mooresville (the one closest to my house) and spoke to Anthony and gave him the whole sob story. This is when he told me that Assurant was looking at inventory, not locations. Assurant NEVER mentioned this to me. He ordered the new screen which updated Assurant lists and thus allowed me to use CPR Phone Repair in Mooresville.
The screen came in and his team replaced it. But wait, there is more to the story.
The screen that came in was some how defective. It would not respond to tapping and swiping the way it should've been. Anthony, without hesitation, ordered screen #2. When that came in, they swapped it out again and this time all was well.
The amount of care and direction that Anthony showed me shows true dedication to customer service. And I feel sad because I plan on switching insurance plans to Asurion. I sure do hope CPR Phone repair in Mooresville...
