PC Laptops have an excellent service and parts replacement policy. I will certainly recommend them to anyone who has neither the mind nor time to deal with their computer problems, or to anyone who has constant issue (such as my sister). The workers here are excellent, courteous and friendly. I certainly can't explain how nice it is to drop of your computer and have someone else just fix it.
To anyone tech savvy, has the time or mind I would not recommend this. Most other sites have decent warranties and trouble shooting programs. Youtube is also excellent, and the money you will save for as good of a rig, is rather nice. I say this only because in the years that I have built my own computer, I have not had nearly as many problems as I have had in the year of owning my PC Laptop.
When purchasing a rig, you are certainly pushed to buy the most expensive and up to date rig. I felt that I wasn't having much of a choice in what I could do or put into it. After some talking to they were able to find a used year old rig that I would have to purchase right then and there. That one was less over my price range. Again pressured to buy.
On anything routine or updating, they have a pretty quick turn around. A day or two to make sure everything is clean and up to date. You can do this on your own (heck, some makes like Nividia does it for you now) and I can do it in a couple of hours. Anything problematic takes far more time. They do a decent first come first serve queue. However for my problems at the beginning I felt taken advantage of as it took far more time to diagnose and get back to me. Later now that I've spent lots of time there they just put me at the front of the queue (albeit it's for the same reoccurring problem).
You over pay for parts. Certainly that's how they make their money, ensure your life time warranties and you do get good parts. Well, I haven't at least. In seven years of building my own I have only had to replace a part, a motherboard. In the year with PC Laptops I've replaced two bad wifi cards, new processor and hard drive. The parts are all now running well, and I'm certain I was just a fluke.
Over the past year of owning this computer I have problems connecting to the internet. In this day and age that is huge considering most games now are solely online. I have had several issues with it connecting and just not getting data back. This would happen at several different internet ports and would not happen in store. Kind of spooky. Finally a year later it does fail for them and two wifi cards later it's running alright. I'm still expecting issues in the next couple of weeks. They've never really seen this issue before, so I'm again probably just a fluke of an experience.
I traded in my tower (which was just as fast as the laptop) for some upgrades. I figured a whole good running computer for a part, that with their supposedly good upgrading service would bring the cost down. I was shocked at the price of $275 for just an i5 processor which on other sites now is only $185 (I checked Newegg for tower processors as this price is triple the mobile processors) To get an upgrade for processor and another solid state (although I would have rather a larger disc drive) would run me $375. After getting the parts in and both failing (costing more time in shop) finally a good solid sate was in. I paid a large $300 for it, understanding then that I would only have $75 left. Over a month later finally they got in a processor for me but charged me $220 for it. I double checked that with them but it just passed over. Obviously I feel overcharged and had to wait far too long.
If you go in wanting to put down tons of money for a top of the line rig and excellent customer service I would recommend this to you. As for me, I'm just fed up with all the issues and costs, I wish I could just get my money back and try somewhere else. Too much bad luck here for me, but if you do choose them I wish you the best of luck, they really...
Read moreBaron at PC LAPTOPS in Murray ROCKED it for me! This machine he built is like nothing I've owned before. Fast is too slow to describe how responsive this computer is. I used to dread windows updates and internet page loading on my old PC. I felt I was back in the early 90s and I could go have a snack before the PC was ready to do anything. Also, Spyware and viruses were constantly being battled. (Thus my familiarity with scans and reboots)
This new PC I actually started with an anxious look, as I didn't see the virus and Spyware being removed, it was just happening in the background and so fast my eyes were catching the fading screen of victory and safety reassuring. I've taken more time to notice, and even catch what Anti-spyware pro has been doing. I have secure full PC backup ability, the PC even keeps up with the Google fiber without a problem! Yesterday, while talking with the company help desk, even that tech said, "Wow, it's so nice to see that some of our employees have a PC Equal to the push-load of the servers!" (The compliance check of my system took less than minute, user compression being the bottleneck) And gaming?! I have to fight off the children so I can use my own PC. Yes, I still give in, a lot, yet get to further witness the computer being more than equal to the many tasks of my teen at online play. All with jaw dropped visual quality, and seamless speed, flow, controls, and winning! (Poor other-end-user PCs, many don't keep up)
Yes, i thought it was a bit steep in price, yet compared to my other, slower only OK Graphics PC. I was replacing the older PCs every 1 to 3 years @100-350.00+) With my yearly, scheduled checkups, I can see this PC lasting 10 years if not beyond. The price comes out to agreeable and doable, without as much stress. (We were admiring the 14 year old PC that Baron and his team have kept running, and running well. It looked like a mash up of my last 2-4 computers, but without the problems, and with a clean appearance.)
Think you could use a new PC? Are you sick of OK computers that are slow, die too often, and full of frustration? You could think investing in PC LAPTOPS PC, and move forward. Just a thought.
(PS, they can make you a super fancy looking computer, too, if...
Read moreupdate, 8/11/19: “We love you!”, they claim, but do they? A contract I had to sign to get an upgrade included paying $10,000 if a customer made even “disparaging” communication about Utah computer vendor PC Laptops — and it’s against the law for businesses to have non-disparagement clauses in their contracts or terms of service, as NBC reported. Bryan Stair, a PC Laptops manager, offered to refund the laptop after I told him the $10K provision isn’t legal. He also didn’t deny that it isn’t. I remember a line in the film “Venom” from the fall where a corrupt company conned folks not likely to read the contract into signing them. I also think about the currently-in-theatres “Aladdin,” where Genie (Will Smith) talks with Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) about effectively making sure you be certain about that to which you are agreeing. Of course, many other films are based on the idea that the shady, if not evil, character, benefits off regular folk not specifying, knowing or taking time to be aware of details of a contract or deal. And even more films have to deal with lawbreaking. It appears that PC Laptops is banking on the same ideas, where transparency is essentially non-existent. (And do they have an issue with the law, too?) Aside from exploiting perhaps the most important three words in humanity, they do tug at your heartstrings with their trailers of the most popular movies and saying that their products are made in Utah, which matters to a strong majority of Utahns. All of their staff also boisterously says “hello!” as you walk in. I was at the point of signing the contract for another laptop because I wrote a poor review about having to go to even one location, in Salt Lake City, Utah, for computer issues seven times over just 11 months — and three times in just three-and-a-half business hours. (That’s aside from needing to go to another location, in Murray, Utah twice over just that 11 months. I also needed to go in three times over the following three months.) (It’s also of note that I was told July 10 at the Orem, Utah location of PC Laptops that my laptop would no longer be serviced because of damage to the laptop. A piece of plastic got inside the device.) And, read the contracts you are...
