The Flea Market is a vibrant and bustling hub of activity, offering a wide array of Chinese made stuff with some local things.

Visitors can expect to find a wide array of goods, including antiques, jewelry, art, and much more. The market's atmosphere is often highlighted as a highlight, with the lively spirit of New Orleans infusing every corner. Whether you're seeking a special souvenir, a piece of local culture, or just a pleasant day out browsing through an eclectic mix of stalls, the French Quarter Flea Market is a "interesting" destination.

Here are some points on the market: things are expensive I wouldn't call the items original or american made you can pay by card at some of the merchants items look like someone made them on the transatlantic cargo ship it could have been something original that only New Orleans has but they had to be the same as other...

It was OK. We traveled all over the country, have seen many of the type of markets and each time it gets worse! The people there are over charging for their items! Seriously overcharging for things. Items I can absolutely find in other places for $10 they are selling here for $75!! Haggle.... Haggle... Haggle!! And if they say no .. good for you! I haggled an item they wanted $65... I told him I had $20! He said $25... NO! I have $20... He accepted! We had to park in the vendors park area. And there were still vans being tagged by people ... So we left before our van was spray painted on too! Got 2 items for $30. Both of them were asking for way too much! Haggle.... Haggle.... Haggle or don't and overpay for things! The lady w the hand wax mold she was super kind! Go. Check...

This was a good way to kill some time one morning, but many of the stalls have the same things. Some sellers were very pushy. One even yelled at my friend because she didn't want to buy a necklace. Most sellers were pleasant but it's a lot of imported junk you can find at your local flea markets. I was hoping for more handmade/local items and was disappointed. Bathrooms had hard metal toilets without seats. They looked like prison toilets I've seen on TV. It was a public bathroom though which can be very tough to find, so I can't complain too...

The Oldest Market in America: New Orleans’ French Market #neworleans #nola #hiddengems #frenchquarter #market The French Market in New Orleans isn’t just a place to shop—it’s a journey through over 230 years of history. Originally established as a Native American trading post, it became a formal market under French and Spanish colonial rule in 1791. Over the centuries, it’s served as a cultural crossroads, where African, Caribbean, European, and Indigenous influences came together to shape the flavors and character of the city. Located in the iconic French Quarter, the market stretches across six blocks and offers everything from fresh produce and local seafood to handmade art, jewelry, and some of the best street food you’ll find in the city. Whether you’re grabbing a beignet, picking up a unique souvenir, or just soaking in the atmosphere, the French Market remains a vibrant and essential piece of New Orleans life. This isn’t just the oldest public market in America—it’s one of the most colorful, diverse, and uniquely New Orleans spots you can experience. Follow me for more New Orleans History!

Founded in 1791, New Orleans' French Market is the oldest public market in the country and has played a historic role in the development of the city's economy. Today, this open-air mall features shopping, dining and music in a tradition that is uniquely New Orleans. Lots of the shops seem to sell similar or identical items and don't even think about taking any photos of their wares. "No Photos" signs are posted everywhere. It's a good place to get New Orleans souvenirs though.
