For the margarita connoisseurs out there... I came in Feb 2 around 1pm, just for drinks and to sit outside. It was kinda cold and windy out. Two nice gentlemen turn on and moved the heat lamps to our table, which could have been outside our server's section. The server never had a foul attitude because we didn't order food but wanted to sit out back and not the bar. He smiled and checked on us regularly. Even refilled our Salsa without having to be asked. We ordered 2 pineapple margaritas at separate times. My friend wanted extra cilantro, which made the margarita more amazing. He brought extra cilantro both times. I believe we were his last table before he was in off for the evening. I never felt rushed or frustration from the gentlemen. The gentleman went out of his way to take care of guest and accommodate us with what we wanted. You can't get great service like this too often in New Orleans. I'm a new local to the Quarter and seek out good places with excellent service and drinks. If you like margaritas stop in get a few. Excellent place if you've never seen a high end margaritas. Ours were around 9 bucks which is average on the menu. $225 is the most expensive one though. If you're in Nola and want Mexican food or margarita put this on the top...
Read moreThey add 20% "gratuity" for TAKE OUT orders that they tell you AFTER you give them the entire order over the phone. He asked before I ordered if I wanted plastic silverware which I declined but failed to tell me he was going to add 20% gratuity before I ordered. I went in to pick up the food pretty loaded for bear after the sneaky $10 they would add for me to pick up my food. So I started with, you just lost a customer over the 20% gratuity. He pointed at the people behind the counter and said well that goes to help pay for those that make your food. Then proceeded to grab my to go boxes in my bag and said it pays for the boxes as well. I repeated you have lost a customer and I am a local. He stated we have 2 other locations in the city and everyone knows we add 20% to our to go orders. Really? I didn't know that. I repeated that I won't be back. Not one time did he use any customer service techniques. He was full of excuses not I'm sorry's!! I honestly can't believe his I don't care attitude. So just so y'all know it costs $10 for 7 to go containers and a piece of foil. Yes the food is good but when you feel like you have been nickel and dimed and lied to, the food...

The atmosphere was great with a nice mix of locals and visitors. Service was solid, and the food came out at a good pace. It's clear why the locals recommended this spot. El Gato Negro offers something special that you won't find everywhere. The fusion concept really works here.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for quality Mexican food with a Louisiana twist. We'll definitely be back next time we're in...
