Well first of all everyone I know there is super nice especially Fernando who gave me an event that he'd knew I'd like because they have comic books and I like them and he's cool but their is one lady, she's their bodyguard or security, she'll have dreads or her hair short and colored and i guess her problem with me I'm always one of the last people to leave (but to be fair I'm from a crummy shelter so I try not to be there at all and stay at the library) which is funny because I always leave 5 minutes before they close but she just tries to get rid of everyone saying they are closed 10-15 minutes before closing, I mean i get it you all wanna leave on time but like I said I always leave 5 minutes before closing, so they don't gotta worry about me. I'm only bringing it up now because last night at not 7 but 6:52 she said. (You're here everyday, you should we're closed by now.) Well no you're not sis, I can be an a** and stay til 7 period but I don't, I leave 5 minutes before you guys have too. She's just been a real headache, lately and I don't want to keep dealing with her, I could go to a different library but I don't want too because it's great there, it's by my favorite park and grocery store. There's even a nice blonde lady who helped me figure out how to find books. The security lady is my only issue. Because of her. I can only give 4 stars...
Read moreWould never have expected a library in this part of the city to be as bad as this one is. I came to study for a state exam I had the next day. I sat furthest from the main entrance. You would think people knew that library environments are meant to be quiet. Well the staff speaks in top volume, they allow visitors to speak at top volume, they have lengthy conversations at top volume to each other ("CAN YOU HELP ME FILL OUT THIS APPLICATION ON THE COMPUTER?" "PRESS THIS?" "YES CLICK THAT." "LIKE THIS?" "YES." "IT'S NOT WORKING." "IS KAREN WORKING?") and the fact that there's a play area for children in the same small space is just amazing. And no, the kid wasn't playing quietly; he was screaming his lungs out. All the chairs are made of some weird material & design(interlaced?) that makes noise like wicker with each slight movement. Regular chairs were just not preferred? And the lights are florescent. If their intent was to limit people's stay, they've succeeded. I actually went to the Brookfield Place food court to study. If the noise level is going to be the same, at least I could...
Read moreI love discovering new and fantastic things by accident. And the Battery Park City Lib is one of those things.
Prior to my little adventure around Tribeca I didn't even know this location existed. Nestled behind Whole Foods, BB&B and Barnes & Nobles it actually in a great location. The library is equal distance between the water & the subway and situated in a beautiful building, which just happens to be Green LEED certified.
I didn't venture to the 2nd floor (rumor has it there's magazines & a reading room up there) but the first floor is easy to navigate, clean and even though it was filled with at least a dozen nice sized tables w/ chairs it was really quiet. Should I need a spot to sit and read/study this would definitely be on my list. the large windows in both the front of the building in the back don't hurt for scenery either.
Staff behind the desk made checkout super easy, which means I'm totally adding BPCL to the list of fav. branches in Manhattan. (If I had...
