I'm not one for writing reviews but I really felt the need here. Seriously awesome customer service. I placed an order for a volume from a series that I couldn't find anywhere. I finally found it at FP and ordered it right away super excited. About an hour after placing my order I got a call from Jeff at FP. He was calling to say he pulled my order and noticed that the book wasn't in perfect condition. He explained the damage, which sounded very minor, and explained my options. He said he would be happy to send me the copy and discount me 10% for the damage or he said he had a line on another copy that he could get me if I was willing to wait. He even went so far as to email me photos of the book so I can see for myself. When I looked at the photos, I laughed a bit. The damage was so incredibly minor that I barely noticed it. The bottom corner of the cover was slightly bent, that's all! But then I realized that Jeff takes pride in giving people perfect products that they can enjoy for a long time. I gladly accepted the "damaged" copy of the book, got refunded a couple bucks which really wasn't necessary, and 2 days later it was at my door. Overall extremely satisfied with this purchase from FP and especially the service Jeff provided me. The experience may not sound very crazy but I was truly amazed with the level of care and customer service that Jeff showed. Well done guys! Will be grabbing the next volume...
Read moreForbidden Planet is my favorite comic book shop. I get immediately happy once I grab the door handles made out of Captain America's shield. The enormous assortment of Doctor Who, Star Wars, and Wonder Woman goodies inside always make me feel like a giddy child. Those things all excite me, but it's the people working there that make FP a place I can't recommend enough. They are helpful and don't talk down to you, and as a girl entering a comic book shop, that is huge to me. The staff happily offers recommendations to get you started on a new series or to show you some new indie comics you may not otherwise have heard of. They are also more than willing to pull issues for you if you call or tweet them and can't hit the shop until later that night, and they're awesome at keeping you up-to-date on items/toys you are looking to purchase. Follow them on Twitter for contests & guest appearance information!
Other things: it is a brightly lit store, always has new items, figures, toys, etc. Huge selection of comics, trades, and graphic novels. Lots of signed comics on-hand and in-store signings & events. Great music. Perfect location (okay, for me...). I can't imagine you going & being...
Read moreI do like the place. They have a big selection of toys, shirts, graphic novels, etc., although more expensive than online. However, my biggest problem with them is that the cashiers end up damaging the books when handling them at the register. About 80% of the time the books I brought up to checkout had damage caused to them (spine creases, finger bends, etc.). I know some people don't care, but I collect comics and I want them in the same shape when I leave the store, as they were when I picked them off the rack. Teach your cashiers to handle the books carefully. It's not hard to do. Because of this I stopped buying new comics from this store and now go elsewhere. Here is a suggestion. Allow people to grab some bags/boards before they pick out their books. This way they can just put the books into the bags and boards as they pick them out. When they finally come up to the register, the books will be protected from the cashiers. Just tell the customers to make sure the side of the book with the barcode is visible through the bag. Problem solved. Others shops do this and it works well. You are probably losing business from a number of potential collectors and just not...
