Came here for restaurant week on a Sunday evening. We were seated right away. The place is decorated pretty nicely with a bunch of polaroids all over the walls, but the restaurant is quite a bit dim. We chose to get food from the Restaurant Week Menu at $39 per person and ordered some extra musubi.
Appetizers: Big Eye Tuna Poke: pretty nice and refreshing, the fish tasted fresh. I loved that they mixed in some different seaweed into the mix and not your typical sushi restaurant seaweed. Berkshire Pork Cutlet: this was bigger than I thought but definitely appreciated. The cutlet was piping hot when it came out and was super crunchy. Even though it was on the slightly thin side it wasn't dry at all and was cooked very well in the center. Galbi + Pork Jowl Musubi (extra): out of the two I liked the pork jowl one the best but my dining partner like the galbi the best. I liked the little bit of crunch that came in the pork jowl one, it complemented it well.
Entrees: Mentaiko Tagliatelle: this dish was alright. I wasn't the biggest fan of it. It had a decent amount of seafood in it and the portion was reasonable. I just didn't love the flavor, can't quite out my finger on it. But it was a bit vinagery? The shrimp and mussels were cooked well. Mochiko Chicken Loco Moco: I liked this one much better. The chicken was really flavorful and crispy. Wish there was more gravy/sauce like a typical loco moco but this still the better of the two entrees. This portion was pretty big, that we had leftovers.
Dessert: King's Hawaiian Bread Pudding: If you like a combination of warm and cold ice cream. This is the one for you. The bread pudding is not overly sweet and it a generous slice. Chocolate Haupia Sundae: I liked this one the best. There were some brown jelly like bits at the bottom of the sundae, I think it was the chocolate Haupia, that was very good, wish there was more. Paired with the crunchy graham crackers. So good.
Service: Waiters are very friendly and always come to check up on you. Constantly refilling your water. The only con was that this dinner took about 2 hours, but they did seem super busy.
Overall I really enjoyed this place for restaurant week and I think it was a great deal for $39. There are not a lot of places that give you a good selection for this price. I loved how much food there was and even if we didn't order the extra musubi I think we would have still been stuffed. The portions seem to be normal sized portions, I feel like I've encountered smaller sized dishes at other restaurant week places before. I have never had authentic Hawaiian food so I can't compare but I did enjoy the flavors...

Ordered: tuna belly misoyaki big-eye tuna poke sea urchin cavatelli mochi-crusted fluke
The good: fantastic flavors and delightful presentation I was surprised by how tender the tuna belly was, since I realized they cooked it, I was expecting a sushi style tuna belly, but once I tasted it, it was fantastic, succulent and cooked just right Tuna poke was fresh and flavorful The sea urchin pasta was also wonderful, the UNI was fresh and extremely creamy, and the cavatelli cooked perfectly, restaurants these days usually over cook their pasta, not here. The fluke was also cooked just right, moist and with the perfect consistency.
The not so good: The portions are all quite small for a $$$ priced restaurant. We ordered 2 desserts, the pineapple upside-down cake and bruleed Hawaiian pineapple. Both desserts were under-whelming, with the Bruleed Pineapple being the lower of the 2. The presentation was ok, but what was presented was a hardened glazed of sugar was encrusted over slices of pineapple ... but it didn't appear anything was done or performed on the pineapple itself; we had though that something would be done to pineapple slices like being grilled, but alas, it seemed to be simply a glaze of hardened sugar coating on pineapple slices.
Overall: The appetizer and main dishes were flavor fantastic and cooked to perfection, the desserts we tried were underwhelming, and the portions a bit small. We would totally go back with this strategy: Get dessert elsewhere after visiting noreetuh Accept the portion provided understanding that some places are focused on the palate and we would have to go in with the plan we may have to order more than 1 dish / appetizer...
