What we liked best - the Dumpling Man staff are really friendly, kind and very knowledgeable about dumplings, their sake offerings and just nice to talk with while ordering. We enjoyed watching their precision timely steaming and pan frying their incredibly fresh dumplings and soup dumplings. We especially were impressed with the quality, cleanliness and were mesmerized watching their precision timely rhythmic hand stuffing and folding of their dumplings. 🥟 I liked that my order of 10 shrimp dumplings was too much for me to eat for dinner! My bottomless pit teen also was stuffed after eating 7 or 8 of the ! Amazing 🤩 My Lovie ordered the soup dumplings. 🥟 I liked that the shrimp dumplings had a little sweet corn inside along with several shrimp and pepper - finally a shrimp dumpling without bamboo and other tasteless fillers! The corn with full little fresh shrimps were tasty - probably the best insides I’ve enjoyed in a long time. My Lovie thought the soup dumplings were very juicy - a good thing since they are filled with juicy meat and soup - but not spicy enough for my dumpling connoisseurist. Here’s what we weren’t crazy about - the outside dumpling wrap is thicker than we are used to, substantial and not going to rip when dunked - no chance. Since we literally saw them being made, we know they are super fresh, I think we are more used to a thinner wrap. Don’t let the wrap stop you from trying this little place. My teen loved the hot and sour soup and the meat dumplings, my lovie and I thought the soup was substantial with juicy ingredients but way too sweet. We heard other diners express how much they loved the dumplings and soup so I think it’s a matter of preference and definitely worth trying to see what you think. I would go back (and will go back!) for their shrimp dumplings, they were just too good and too high quality and my top rating for me to not make a run for the Dumpling Man when I want shrimp dumplings. 🥟 Also, I have to say this - this was the CLEANEST most NEAT and sanitary dumpling place - hands down! We observed frequent hand washing, sanitary handling of food, utensils and pans. It was impressive, especially as we eat our way through other East Village and Chinatown stands. This is reason enough to make a visit. They are an A (really A+) most other dumpling places start at B tbh… I liked this place very much and enjoyed our dinner. 🍽️ Cash...
Read moreI got to know this place from searching around on Google map. And it got really nice reviews so i decided to give it a shot. Mind you i didnt eat nothing on that day. I was saving space for the delicious dumplings i was about to get.
I went in with my girlfriend and ordered chicken and pork dumpling, one fried, one steamed. The price was ok. I mean you get a dozen of dumplings for $12.50 thats not too bad. The guy was nice and look, he could speak Chinese to the ladies working there. Awesome.
Took a seat at the bar where you could watch how people make dumpling. It was quite nice. Until i saw the lady who made the dumpling wasn't wearing any gloves on. She was making those dumplings and pressing the gaps with her thumb nail, which was i could see from my seat, long and it has ... uhh something dark in it ... ugh... And it looked like i ordered those that were made by her. In my mind i thought, well this is it. At one point, i turned around and saw she took her cell phone out, read her text and put it back in her pocket, then she continued on doing what she was doing (making those golden dumplings).
We waited around 10 mins and the food was ready. The steamed dumplings that my gf ate was ok. She finished most of them, but my fried dumplings... well, i took one bite and i tried my best to finish another one. It was not something i would expect. The filling and the shell just didnt bind together. They were like a small amount of ground meat threw inside a bag... you take one bite and it fall apart. I spent 2 minutes at the table.. actually i spent around 30 seconds there and the rest of the time was to wait for my gf to finish hers. She told me she couldnt take it anymore. After that, we went to have some ice cream but we couldnt eat nothing tasty coz the flavor of the dumplings... everything was just at the throat... a terrible evening out on a date.
Overall, this place is ok. Price is nice. Friendly staffs. But the food isnt something i expect. And yeah i think they should put gloves on when working on...
Read moreMy favorite dumplings are the veggie, and for dessert the pumpkin are delish! They keep me coming back for more. Whenever I am in this area, I know I have a solid choice of food if nothing else appeases me. I'm a picky eater so that says a lot. It's a great place to eat some fresh dumplings! One of my favorite things about this place is how fresh the food is, they make the dumplings right in front of you with wholesome ingredients. I can taste the difference when I bite into one. Some other review mentioned Chinatown - dude, Chinatown has got nothing on these guys, last time I had a Chinatown dumpling from a famed dumpling spot I felt sick to my stomach from all the preservatives and crap I could tell were put in them! Don't trust those cheap Chinatown dumplings, there's probably cats and dogs in them! For people who are health conscious and care about what goes into their bodies yet want something satisfying, comforting and delicious, this is...
