When I am bored, I start to google really weird stuff. ..Idk why I googeld " best blue cheese New York". I don't even eat blue cheese, cause it is stinky and moldy - gross! Anyways, I googled it and found a guy, who wrote ( his name is Professor cheese đđ I like that) that you can find the best blue cheese at Murray's. So I did a 10 miles walk to that cheese store. The cheese, that Professor Cheese recommend, was so unbelievable disgusting - made out of goat milk. Tasted exactly like a goat smells. A dirty, filthy one. But the guy behind the corner let me try several of those blue cheeses, he was very nice and he was trying to help me to find the perfect cheese for me. After I tried a few, I took a piece of the last one, I just tried. I hate blue cheese! Gross! I can't eat it, but I was embarrassed and I felt sorry for that guy, and I didn't dare to tell him, that ( for me) every cheese tasted the same ( well, some just tasted like mold, but minus the stinky, filthy goat taste, cause it was made of cow milk). So I bought 10 dollars of a cheese , that I really hated, but I was too timid to say that. Damn! ( 2026 new years resolution: tell people that their cheese sucks ) But I bought some truffeld Gouda as well, and that was really amazing! I ate it on my way back to the hotel. It is a nice store, if you are a Professor, or Dr. of cheese ( or just a cheese lover ). It is very pricey, but the people who are working there are really nice! I don't judge the cheese! I am happy with regular Gouda, a good steak and some moonshine - the simple things in live. I have no clue about extra fancy food. So all the blue cheese were probably top notch -...
Read moreBackground: I run a business that uses small pieces of cheese (four one-ounce pieces per person, amount of people can vary from 1-150). I live in Chicago and have clients around the world. I often need to call local cheese shops in other cities to place and pay for an order for my clients to pick up. It has literally never been a problem in the five years of running this business. NOT ONCE.
Then comes Murrayâs.
Murrayâs will not allow me to order cheese over the phone. They told me to order via Instacart (which I canât do because Iâm in Chicago so it wonât let me access the store) or Mercato (which will only let me purchase cheese by the pound). They then told me that I canât order for pickup over the phone for the small pieces I need because they wonât cut it unless I come in (even though I explained to them that my client would be coming in to pick it up, I just needed to make the order and pay for it).
Iâve worked an event at Murrayâs before and had an excellent experience, so it pains me to write this review. But because the cheese shop is popular around the country, I think itâs important that people who are trying to order for gifts or pick-ups for loved ones are aware of whatâs going to happen.
Iâm extremely disappointed in the shop and its service.
UPDATED: My client went in to get the cheese herself, and they still wouldnât cut it for her â even though they told me if someone came in, they would cut it to the small...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place. The cheese selection is amazing â diverse, fresh, and delicious. The sample attendant was incredibly friendly and patient, and I appreciated their passion for introducing each product.
Unfortunately, my experience at checkout completely ruined the visit. I was charged nearly 6 times the actual amount I purchased, and I wasnât given a receipt. When I returned with my bank transaction to correct the mistake, the cashier with light brown hair was impatient and dismissive. Instead of acknowledging the overcharge, he blamed me for not asking for a receipt â even though it should have been offered in the first place.
To make things worse, because my friend and I combined our purchases in one bag for environmental reasons, the cashier implied that we were hiding extra items. I was shocked â Iâve never been made to feel like I was being accused of stealing before. When I asked him to check the storeâs security footage, he first said it wouldnât be available until next week, then told us we were wasting time and holding up other customers.
Itâs deeply disappointing that such a great product is paired with such poor customer service. I sincerely hope the management takes this as a sign to improve staff training â especially in handling mistakes and treating customers with...
