This is the first google review I have ever left in my life. However this was truly an incredibly unprofessional experience. I came in for a hair and bang trim. I left with 4 inches cut and âlayersâ that actually ended up being half a bob. I went to a different salon to get in corrected because I obviously did not want to go back and repeat this experience. I called and asked if we could discuss a refund because it was truly a horrible hair cut â not even because it ISNT what I wanted, but because it was so uneven. I mean no disrespect to the stylist and therefore wonât leave their name, but it was incredibly rushed, not what I wanted, and improperly done. Hair grows back, itâs not the end of the world, but when hair is cut so unevenly that you end up with half a bob instead of a layer, that is a different story. I tried to get in contact with the manager over several days (everyone is busy I get it) and she calls me and I answer. I am met with somehow getting blamed that I went to a different salon to get it fixed???? And then she says âpeople always come backâ when their hair is messed up, which leads me to ask âso this happens often?â. She then somehow tried to blame me and said âwhy would u judge a whole salon based off one stylist,ââŠ.because your stylists are who represent your salon? How else is one to judge a salon business? I offered to send her pictures and then tells me she remembers me and I âdid not have a bobâ which was just astounding because at this point I said so many times that he cut a âlayerâ into a bob aka half my hair was long and half was a bob. The only service she offers is to leave a note on my file for if I come back for a trim to get a discount/free (that is actually unclear to me whether it is a discount or free). I asked if they can leave that note for my friend who goes their for curly cuts and therefore my friend can pay me and everyone wins. I am met with a blatant âno this is about u not herâ, so the manager entirely missed the point that I need my money back. I donât have over $100 to throw away when I had to pay more money to get it fixed. I understand the stylist needs paid for their time which is why I offered that alternative. She continued to talk over me telling me how her salon is so fantastic and her stylists are so fantastic and did not listen at all. I unfortunately tried to handle this professionally, but the manager essentially bulldozed me the entire call. They may have other talented hairstylists, who knows, I cannot speak to that. But I can speak to the blatant unprofessionalism of the manager, and the unfortunate, incredibly uneven haircut I received and will now have to grow...
Read moreI made my appointment with Marcos for a trim and gloss based on reviews that recommended him for curly hair. When I arrived he was still working on someone else, so I was told someone was going to do my gloss and then he would do the cut. The owner Jennifer was extremely abrasive to me from the start of the appointment, even calling my hair a âdisasterâ. Another stylist I did not make my appointment with ends up coming over to cut my hair before the gloss - which I said multiple times I wanted to maintain my same exact hair shape but just trim off the dead ends. She ends up just doing her own thing and giving me much shorter layers. She was the sweetest woman, so my main issue is not with her whatsoever - it was the way the salon owner (Jennifer) handled the ordeal. When I see my hair after wash, I started crying (I am extremely embarrassed as this has never happened to me before - I had a bad week and was getting my hair done to try and make myself feel better). They make me sit under the dryer and then Jennifer styles my hair for about 20 minutes and just proceeds to argue with me about my own hair. She even tried telling me the stylist didnât cut that much because she swept the floor afterwards, but I explained that someone had also swept the floor during the middle of my haircut. Regardless, at the end of the day, the stylist did my haircut in a completely different way than I asked, and the owner instead of trying to apologize is just arguing with me about how it looks. After the third time I said I just wanted to pay and leave, she stopped. Supposedly I received a discount on the haircut, but 200 dollars later I left with my hair feeling super dry (post gloss !!! ) and not cut the way I...
Read moreThis review is long overdue, so my apologies to Sonada and Jennifer!
I loved my former stylist, and my former salon. Until I didn't. I kept asking to grow out my layers, except a few face framing ones. It seemed like she kept cutting them shorter and choppier. The last time I went, I felt like my hair looked like a mushroom. I'm an attorney and 75% of my work hairdos are ponytails and buns, which is impossible to do when you have layers sticking out all over the place.
As anyone knows, finding a new stylist is nerve-wracking. There are hundreds in NYC so sifting through them in the first place is a Sisyphean task, let alone reading every single review. I settled upon Salon West, which is right next door to my nail salon, Lux Nails (I actually need to write a review for them, too). Why not, they seem as good as any, I thought.
My first impression is that this is a very busy salon and kind of no-nonsense. Sonada did my lowlights, and did an amazing job. She told me that Jennifer (the owner) was much better with what I wanted cut than she was, so Jennifer cut my hair. I explained to her my concerns, and she was very realistic about what she could and couldn't do.
Well, to make a long and very nervous story short, I got my cohesive, non-shaggy ponytails back! My hair is a lot shorter than I want, because it's just going to take time for the layers to grow out, and we had to cut a lot off in the back especially. I'm ok with that, it is what it is. I can however make a cute little bun. And Jennifer said if I wasn't satisfied, I could come back within 2 weeks for them to fix whatever my issue was.
The price was amazing especially for the area. I will definitely be back for some more...
