I’m editing this review after my third visit. My first visit was confusing because I thought I was getting my hair cut by Jennifer but then she sat me in a chair and said someone else would do it, but didn’t give a name. That person was walking around with hair dye and foils in her own head. She came over, consulted with me for 30 seconds, then began to cut my hair VERY fast that I was worried. Turns out, Angela did an incredible job with my haircut the first time, which is why I came back 2 more times. The first time I came in with box-dyed red hair (I’m blonde and my roots were showing) Jennifer offered a discount for me to stay and get the roots fixed and add some highlights and a gloss. The amount of the discount was never disclosed. I said yes, but felt bullied into it. I walked in for a curly short haircut and left with the cut, single process dye, highlights, and gloss. It all happened so fast that I didn’t feel like I had time or the understanding of what they were doing to say no. Ultimately the results are great, but the ambience of this salon is stressful on a slow day. The communication is poor- no one takes the time to tell you what’s happening next. I got moved around and passed off without anyone introducing themselves or explaining what they were doing. The small salon is often over crowded with staff yelling and rushing around (Jennifer tends to yell a lot). If you get overstimulated easily, this is not the place for you. 5 stars for the hair, 2 stars for the salon itself.

Was a very strange experience.. I called yesterday and explained i am looking for a woman’s haircut but i have thinner hair and just looking for a cut. A man answered the phone saying a haircut would be $70. I said i was looking for a cut between $50-$60 and i would just go somewhere else. I almost hung up but he insisted they could do it for $60 and “left a note” to ensure my price. Well i go in for my haircut. I specifically explain to the hair dresser *i dont want a bob*, i want it about half way between my chin and my shoulders. She said okay. She chopped all my hair off without even checking in about the length (which normally they cut half, check in, and then cut the remaining length). Well she gave me the shortest bob in my life! I was so sad. I feel like i gained 10 years to my appearance with this haircut. I could tell she tried really hard to cut it. But I just am so sad she took sooo much hair off. đŸ˜« Then comes time to pay. They insist on charging me $125. I am already feeling sad about my haircut, let alone paying twice as much as i was told. i told them the man on the phone said $60– Otherwise i would have gone somewhere else. I asked to speak to the manager bc i wanted to discuss that i was unhappy with my hair cut. But then she said she could do $65 but “not next time.” I paid and just got out of there. Overall i will not be going back. I am even going to dye my hair to find a way to get my youth back bc this hair cut aged me so much 😭

I’ve been seeing Ava for the past year now. I have naturally curly hair (probably about type 3A-3B). I had a bad haircut before I met Ava and she fixed it right up. As a curly girl it is very hard to trust someone with my hair, but from the minute I met Ava I felt a sense of relief. Her also having curly hair helped because she could relate to a lot of my struggles of finding someone who knows how to actually do my hair. I am not even from nyc but I travel to Ava to cut/color my hair because I won’t put my hair in anyone else’s hands. Since seeing her my hair grows out to be so healthy and long. I also never trusted anyone to put color in my hair in fear of my curl pattern being ruined, but after meeting Ava I knew that it takes the right stylist to do it right without messing up your hair no matter what type of hair you have. I highly recommend Ava no matter what kind of hair you have. She’s a funny, kind, and talented person. You won’t be disappointed!

This is the first google review I have ever left in my life. However this was truly an incredibly unprofessional experience. I came in for a hair and bang trim. I left with 4 inches cut and “layers” that actually ended up being half a bob. I went to a different salon to get in corrected because I obviously did not want to go back and repeat this experience. I called and asked if we could discuss a refund because it was truly a horrible hair cut — not even because it ISNT what I wanted, but because it was so uneven. I mean no disrespect to the stylist and therefore won’t leave their name, but it was incredibly rushed, not what I wanted, and improperly done. Hair grows back, it’s not the end of the world, but when hair is cut so unevenly that you end up with half a bob instead of a layer, that is a different story. I tried to get in contact with the manager over several days (everyone is busy I get it) and she calls me and I answer. I am met with somehow getting blamed that I went to a different salon to get it fixed???? And then she says “people always come back” when their hair is messed up, which leads me to ask “so this happens often?”. She then somehow tried to blame me and said “why would u judge a whole salon based off one stylist,”
.because your stylists are who represent your salon? How else is one to judge a salon business? I offered to send her pictures and then tells me she remembers me and I “did not have a bob” which was just astounding because at this point I said so many times that he cut a “layer” into a bob aka half my hair was long and half was a bob. The only service she offers is to leave a note on my file for if I come back for a trim to get a discount/free (that is actually unclear to me whether it is a discount or free). I asked if they can leave that note for my friend who goes their for curly cuts and therefore my friend can pay me and everyone wins. I am met with a blatant “no this is about u not her”, so the manager entirely missed the point that I need my money back. I don’t have over $100 to throw away when I had to pay more money to get it fixed. I understand the stylist needs paid for their time which is why I offered that alternative. She continued to talk over me telling me how her salon is so fantastic and her stylists are so fantastic and did not listen at all. I unfortunately tried to handle this professionally, but the manager essentially bulldozed me the entire call. They may have other talented hairstylists, who knows, I cannot speak to that. But I can speak to the blatant unprofessionalism of the manager, and the unfortunate, incredibly uneven haircut I received and will now have to grow...

I made my appointment with Marcos for a trim and gloss based on reviews that recommended him for curly hair. When I arrived he was still working on someone else, so I was told someone was going to do my gloss and then he would do the cut. The owner Jennifer was extremely abrasive to me from the start of the appointment, even calling my hair a “disaster”. Another stylist I did not make my appointment with ends up coming over to cut my hair before the gloss - which I said multiple times I wanted to maintain my same exact hair shape but just trim off the dead ends. She ends up just doing her own thing and giving me much shorter layers. She was the sweetest woman, so my main issue is not with her whatsoever - it was the way the salon owner (Jennifer) handled the ordeal. When I see my hair after wash, I started crying (I am extremely embarrassed as this has never happened to me before - I had a bad week and was getting my hair done to try and make myself feel better). They make me sit under the dryer and then Jennifer styles my hair for about 20 minutes and just proceeds to argue with me about my own hair. She even tried telling me the stylist didn’t cut that much because she swept the floor afterwards, but I explained that someone had also swept the floor during the middle of my haircut. Regardless, at the end of the day, the stylist did my haircut in a completely different way than I asked, and the owner instead of trying to apologize is just arguing with me about how it looks. After the third time I said I just wanted to pay and leave, she stopped. Supposedly I received a discount on the haircut, but 200 dollars later I left with my hair feeling super dry (post gloss !!! ) and not cut the way I...

This review is long overdue, so my apologies to Sonada and Jennifer!

I loved my former stylist, and my former salon. Until I didn't. I kept asking to grow out my layers, except a few face framing ones. It seemed like she kept cutting them shorter and choppier. The last time I went, I felt like my hair looked like a mushroom. I'm an attorney and 75% of my work hairdos are ponytails and buns, which is impossible to do when you have layers sticking out all over the place.

As anyone knows, finding a new stylist is nerve-wracking. There are hundreds in NYC so sifting through them in the first place is a Sisyphean task, let alone reading every single review. I settled upon Salon West, which is right next door to my nail salon, Lux Nails (I actually need to write a review for them, too). Why not, they seem as good as any, I thought.

My first impression is that this is a very busy salon and kind of no-nonsense. Sonada did my lowlights, and did an amazing job. She told me that Jennifer (the owner) was much better with what I wanted cut than she was, so Jennifer cut my hair. I explained to her my concerns, and she was very realistic about what she could and couldn't do.

Well, to make a long and very nervous story short, I got my cohesive, non-shaggy ponytails back! My hair is a lot shorter than I want, because it's just going to take time for the layers to grow out, and we had to cut a lot off in the back especially. I'm ok with that, it is what it is. I can however make a cute little bun. And Jennifer said if I wasn't satisfied, I could come back within 2 weeks for them to fix whatever my issue was.

The price was amazing especially for the area. I will definitely be back for some more...
