Space Club Greenpoint — Attraction in New York

EDIT/UPDATE from initial review: I went for my second time today and really appreciate that items below were addressed. In the dark room the weighted star pillows surround the (cushioned) bollard so there is a buffer for kids there. Also noticed that any concrete beams in the pink playgym area are now covered/protected by netting, the pillows at the base of some slides are nailed down so they stay in place when kids slide down. These details do not go unnoticed and are valued by customers. Thank you for your dedication to safe play. ————————

I just went to Space Club for my first time. I went by myself with my 3.5 yr old and 1.5 yr old. I support locally owned businesses and realize that this space recently opened and give kudos to the owner for all the work and love that I can only imagine was put into creating and running the space. My experience: LIKES: thoughtfully designed in the spirit of art and play. Bouncy house structure is fun for mobile kids and seems low risk for injuries. The restroom area has a nice soft couch outside the stalls, a diaper changing table in a private corner, and the stalls are really clean, sleek, nice, roomy and kid friendly so you can bring them into the stall with you if you’re alone as an adult. Ball pits are a lot of fun and love the slides going into the ball pits. The suspended items like cushioned swings and soft cylinders were fun and seem safe as well. Dark room is fun with all the gigantic pillows and art installations.. Can definitely spend a lot of time here, without getting bored and my kids had a lot of fun. DISLIKES: There were a few cement (?) beams (one in a corner in the dark room that seemed like a possible place for an active toddler to hit their head?) and one of the rectangular beams with hard edges in the pink jungle gym area that also might be cement? Floors seem like they could be softer or have thicker landing cushions at the base of a couple slides and at the base of a very tall stair-like mound that itself is very cushiony but if a younger toddler happens to slip and roll down they’d be landing on hard ground. I realize that adults are responsible for their own children and they sign a waiver. If you’re alone as an adult and bring more than 1 kid, you have to be comfortable with potentially not being able to keep your eyes on both kids at the same time. As long as you know what you’re signed up for. On a side note: I’ve been hearing some conflicting information from neighborhood moms on the pricing of a membership, with some reporting they have a single membership that covers entry for 2 kids, but when I called the main line, and when I spoke to front desk, it was communicated that it’s 1 membership per child over...

UPDATE/ EDIT TO ORIGINAL POST: this place is the absolute best. They listened to the feedback and replaced the wooden balls with clear plastic stars. We’ve now been members for 3 months and continue to love each time we visit!!

ORIGINAL POST : We had a great time! Could have easily spent 2 hours or more there since has good variety of unique play areas and is a large space. I especially thought the bouncy house was amazing - the best one I’ve ever seen at a play space. My child typically feels claustrophobic and scared of how crowded bouncy houses get but he loved this one (and so did the adults). I definitely want to go back.

The only negative and it’s a fairly big one is the wooden ball pit. Our son made a beeline for the slide that leads into the ball pit. Once he slid down it and hit the balls he didn’t like how they felt under his feet so he asked us to come get him. I just thought he was being sensitive but we could barely walk to get him because the balls were so hard on our feet. At another visit our nanny witnessed a child throwing the wooden balls and was scared that one was going to hit our baby so she steered clear of that ball pit area all together. They do have a different ball pit that has soft plastic balls and it’s a decent size so at least there is that option but this ball pit is front and center. I’ve read Space Club’s replies to other parents here about how they are sustainable and self cleaning which I think is a lovely idea in concept, health (and aesthetic). But truly the wooden balls are just too hard to be in a children’s play space. And I know not every parent is going to come on here to review but when we were there at least four other parents were talking about how uncomfortable the ball pit was. I’m hopeful that eventually the wooden balls can be phased out. I loved the space so much I would sign up for a membership and want to have one of my children’s birthday parties there but this is the only reason that’s...

What a place that is truly outta this world! Space Club is a great place that is better than your local play gym; this play is not only HUGE, but offers a quiet corner and spaces for overly sensory stimulated children. This place puts kids first in cleanliness, good lighting, staff available on the floor, and quality place spaces.

Came here solely based on the recommendation for a play date with a friend, and it worked out well! Upon checking in, we were given free socks for our indoor play experience, and my son RAN inside, heeding little to my yells to wait up for me. The pink obstacle course and the room filled with foam blocks was the highlight of the experience for my son. Children of all ages were running, laughing, squealing, jumping, and playing. The parents also seems to enjoy the space just as much with chilling in the quiet corners, or opting to have a snack and hydrate at the tables and benches stationed at the front of the establishment.

Two birthday parties were being held at the same time during our visit, and they had little to no impact on how we enjoyed our stay. The place is very well cared for, and I will more than likely be looking into a membership, since my boy was exhausted after 2+ hours of play, but insisted we come back tomorrow.
