A charming local spot - I can't believe I hadn't visited sooner (having lived here for just over a year).
Popped in after dinner just in time to catch an excellent 2 set evening of jazz. First trio began "progressive", though found a lot of cohesion and played a fantastic set as the it went on. Second act was superb all the way through.
Extremely good value at a recommended donation of $12pp. Do be prepared to bring cash (artists may offer a Paypal/Venmo etc., but it's a bit on-the-fly and no guaranteed way to do it otherwise) - fortunately my wife had some!
Warm and friendly host/bar manager (I assume perhaps also the owner?). Reasonably priced selection of drinks, including some great options - in our case, Kona Big Wave on draft, Sazerac Rye, and a solid Cab Franc by the glass.
Will most certainly be returning, and kicking myself that I hadn't spotted this sooner. Ideal for following a meal at Kingfisher, & Sons, or any of the other restaurants in...
Read moreI am not giving this place three stars to be a dick, I just had a bit of a weird experience here. I would be willing to give it another shot. Anyway, I stopped by here after an Ugly God show for a nightcap. It was about 11PM, and it was packed. When we pointed this out, the bartender told us that they were "really more of a music place." Maybe they are, but I'd imagine if they want to make money as a bar they'll have to make a few improvements. There also was no music playing when we arrived- live or otherwise. Fairly pricey, as well. All in all, it struck me as an overly trendy addition to a neighborhood that maybe doesn't need all that. I'd be willing to give it another shot,...
Read moreProbably my favorite small music venue in NYC. I’ve rarely seen so much talent in such an intimate and unpretentious space. I rarely check to see who is playing because almost every time I go the artists are fantastic. It feels more like someone home but with amazing sound. It’s also pay what you want for each band so it’s less of a commitment than going to a show. Their beer...
