History: This place was formally call Silver Barn Farm until I believe the same owner of Met Food across the street brought it out years back, the old supermarket was a bit run down and was newly renovated after the new owner brought the place and modernized it. They end up offering more organic choices than before and more varieties selection
Present day: this location end up being a bit pricier with the new owner, the customer rate isn't as much as before. Previous owner, you'll always have a parking lot full and wait for a spot most of the day, now... you're guaranteed a spot everytime you go there except during weekend rush hour. You will expect the same sales of the week 70% if the time between Met food and village barn (e.g if orange fruit are on sale 5 for $5. You'll see the same sell in met food or vice versa)
Generally. This location are good. Not perfect, their items or produces are decently priced. Nothing to outrageous, some produce will be higher then usual while other maybe cheaper then other competitor.
Main customer that usually go to this place is for cold cuts. They have pretty good price in term of cold cut and the selection. They also have fresh rolls that comes in every morning and get sold out quick. They also homemade some of the bakery in house which is pretty cool.
Expect some produces that maybe going bad due to lacking a high traffic customer bases. So you will need to make sure you pick the freshest produce there and check the dates on some other item.
Overall... if you need to shop your weekly grocery needs I would recommend going to stop and shop supermarket. But if you need something quick (like a single item that you're missing), walkable distance and cold cut needs. Then village barn is highly...
Read moreSo yesterday 9/20/19, I stopped in to pick up a few things. I went to the deli counter and was delighted to see that the Boars Head lacey Swiss was on sale. I ordered a pound. When the young man cut it and put on the scale I noticed it was not the lacey Swiss. When I questioned him he said that the Finlandia Swiss was the one on sale. When my wife showed him the sign that was on the counter (the picture) he said it was not on sale and the Finlandia was the one. When asked for the manager he said I would have to come back in the morning because no one was there. Told him I did not want it and I would take the Boars Head, he cut me regular swiss instead. On top of this he over charged me double on the crab cake (it was not that good). So was this a case of a new employee not knowing anything or deceptive advertising? And I find it hard to believe that a manager was not around at 3:30 in the afternoon. Another problem with this store is it definitely overpriced on a lot of items. I have been going on and off to this store for years, I can say it will be a long time before I spend my money...
Read moreDue to new ownership, as of end of August, prices have skyrocketed. The owner of Village Barn is also the owner of Met Food. There is no longer any price competition between the two stores as it once was prior to this new ownership. The weekly specials WERE wonderful,; ex. 3 types of block cheese on sale were 3 for $5. Now,, one block of cheese is almost $3.00! People in the neighborhood flocked to Silver Barn due to the prices of its fruits and vegetables. This is a neighborhood where prices are looked at and compared. Due to the increase, I just run in for their milk prices, which have gone down.
Where do I go now for my fruits and vegetables? VALENTINO where I can buy plum tomatoes for 49 cents a pound and not $1.49 a pound that Village Barn is charging and the comparison pricing for other products is staggering indeed between the two stores!
All of Middle Village and local communities that shop at Village Barn need to send the new owner the message to stop price gauging the hard...
