With all the rehab center choices in Queens, you should look no further than this place! I can attest to the highest level of rehabilitation care at Dry Harbor. My mom had a stroke and was admitted in almost unconscious condition. In addition to that, she was diagnosed with vascular dementia. It is amazing how much care Dry Harbor put into her rehab.
Special thanks to the fourth floor supervising nurse, Tamara! She made sure that no little detail of mom’s stay was ever overlooked. If your loved one is admitted to the fourth floor, you should know that they will be in the hands of a highly professional team staffed with nurses and PCAs who have very warm hearts. Nurses Bernadette and Yulia were simply the best. Their supervisor, Tamara, is not only fully competent in medical care, but is also knowledgeable about every aspect of patients’ stay at Dry Harbor. She gave me weekly updates on my mom’s progress and was there every time I needed to talk to her. Words cannot describe how good Tamara is at what she does!
While your loved one is on the fourth floor, you can also rest assured that social worker Galina will help you with all necessary steps of the rehab procurement and eventual discharge. Communication was flawless, and her help with paperwork is greatly appreciated. The support team and referrals Galina provided were spot on. Mom is going to need a lot of help while continuing to recover in community setting, and Galina connected me with a reliable network of professionals who were standing by to make sure the discharge was safe and followed by continued care at home. Please note that Tamara, Galina, and Yulia are also Russian speaking, so anyone from the Russian community is strongly advised to look nowhere else in Rego Park/Forest Hills area of Queens. Believe me, and save your precious time, as I visited many (if not all) locations in the vicinity before choosing Dry Harbor. They don’t speak Russian anywhere else.
Finally, and most importantly, the physical therapy department put a lot of long, quality hours in making sure mom regained some motion after the stroke. What rehab would it be without great PT? Ann Marie and Anna are two sweethearts who will wow you with their kindness while being very thorough and systematic in their every day PT routine. Beth in speech therapy was very nice and helpful as well.
Mom still has a long road ahead of her in order to recover after a health scare that affects so many elderly. The folks at Dry Harbor made the first and most important steps of the long journey less...
Read moreMy dad is an ER fighting for his life tonight. We’ve been lied to about his conditions, including a positive Covid result tonight that hospital confirmed is inaccurate…two negatives. They were going to send covid negative resident to covid floor and expose him and his family to risk. He was brought by ER, at my insistence that 911 be called as they we’re completely ignoring concerns or addressing his . He can to ER with fever of 105!!!. They told family friend he was “sundowning” and would put him to bed. He’s in septic shock. They told us he had pneumonia. He didn’t. I could go on and on but need to focus on him. My intent tonight’s is to save another family from this. Run, don’t walk, from this facility.
Update: so we are now on day 6 of watching my Dad go through torture from septic shock, likely preventable. Gave permission to move this beloved Father and Grandfather to hospice.
Trust nothing they say. They do NOT care. No one can/will answer you and please for help will be ignored.
I didn’t save my dad but maybe i can save someone else’s

3 months after my Dad’s horrific death in hospice from Septic Shock, highly preventable, Im getting a response to call? I couldn’t get a response from your staff in person. The day my dad went to ER I had to call the head of social services 3 times to beg for help and to report head of nursing was ignoring my pleas to see him. He went to ER because I said I would call 911 myself.
I can share here the multiple emails that went unanswered from the social work team. The time to speak to our family and address our concerns was when our beautiful and much loved father, grandfather, uncle, friend, US Marine Corps veteran was alive and planning to return home. He is now 3 months in his grave after his one month stay at this despicable and dangerous facility.

Read moreMy mother was here on two occasions. The rehab staff is great...they got her walking in good time. The administrative staff is the worst. The man who handles the finances needs to get an education on courtesy. My mother caught an infection while there which prohibited her being transferred to an assisted living setting. During that time her insurance stopped paying since her rehab covered days had expired. I was told no place would take her until the infection cleared. When it finally did two weeks later they wanted close to $6,000.00. Before I could even make a case the guy from the finance office threatened to go to collections and to report me as deadbeat to all the other assisted living places so they would not accept my mother. This is all before I said one word. Nice guy...Had I known I would have transferred her to a local hospital where insurance would have covered the cost. This was never explained. I spoke to everyone I could in the admin office but no one would assist. Not even to adjust the cost. I was force to come up with the cash as quickly as possible since the meter was kept running while I borrowed the cash. Not very nice people but they will be old one day too. It was an expensive lesson for someone who never had to go through an elder parents rehab. Beware of them. Find another place if possible. I hope the right people in senior management read this and make changes with administration. Your rehab...
