I went to see the Ogden Musical Theater's production of A Tale of Two Cities: In Concert. I paid $28 per ticket, before taxes.
First, the confessions are unreasonably expensive. There isn't a drinking fountain and I paid $4 for a bottle of water.
Second, the production used AI generated backgrounds. They were so bad and really took me out of the moment. And these backgrounds were not special, they could have easily found existing images to use. One background was trying to spell "Bastille". One building had "bASLLE" and another had "bY/sile". Another scene was a simple bedroom in a Versailles-like building. The bed had an awning and one connected post. The other post disappeared halfway up to the awning and the awning just connected to the back end instead, creating a triangle.
Third, they used 0 costumes. Everyone in the cast wore black pants, a black t-shirt, and a black blazer. Some of the women wore black dresses. No one took off their Apple watches. It takes 2 seconds to take off an Apple watch and you're charging me $30 per ticket, come on. Again, took me out...
Read moreBest theatre in town! There's always something going on at the Egyptian, and so much of it is family friendly (as long as your kids are old enough to sit through things- I would recommend at least kindergarten age unless it's a specific childrens show) There are concerts by local artists, movie nights, film festivals, local ballet companies, Ogden Musical Theatre, and you have to experience Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Egyptian! They have a super friendly crew, making it nice to see familiar faces each time we're there. It's also fun when there's someone playing the Wurlitzer organ before shows. The whole building has a warm cozy feel. Yes, the lobby is a bit small, but realize how old the building is- they did what they could with the space they had. It is actually a lot larger than it used to be back in the day because the box office and concession area aren't where they used to be. They did a beautiful job restoring the old theatre and it's one of the rare...
Read moreThis year's production of Five Carol's for Christmas was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! I first saw this play several years ago in Centerville. We laughed so hard we had tears. I was so excited when I found it was being performed in Ogden. (Before Covid). I invited my 4 sisters and my brother as my Christmas gift. Again we laughed so hard and totally enjoyed it.We've talked about it since. It was the same cast as in Centerville which was a delight. So this year I invited a couple of friends to attend. It was a different cast.. The music was great but they TOTALLY missed the mark with the humor this year. It was so flat. Got very few laughs and they were barely a chuckle or two. The humor is what makes this such a great play. I think they concentrated too much on choreography. I was so sad after seeing it this year and would not recommend it. Please bring back...
