On the morning of Saturday, August 6th 2022 I decided to go on a walk. I live on Adams Ave. right around the corner from The Monarch. I've walked past The Monarch numerous times on my morning walks or while walking my dog, but I've never visited any of the shops or attended any events held there. On this particular morning I was walking by admiring the mural, thinking about having lunch there when I noticed that the mural goes down into the parking lot. I had never noticed this before and decided to check it out. As I entered the parking lot there was a woman getting out of her vehicle and exiting the lot. I followed the mural down to the end of the lot and then turned around and began to walk towards the exit. About half way down the same woman I had seen leaving was approaching me and asked "Do you mind telling me what you're doing hanging out at the back of my lot?" The question seemed to be loaded with attitude and felt very accusatory. I simply answered that I was checking out the mural and that I was leaving. I think its important to mention that I am heavily tattooed and my tattoos were quite visible on this day. I can't help but feel that if I didn't look the way I do, this question may have never been asked since I constantly see people standing around or taking pictures by the murals. Maybe I'm wrong, but based on the way she looked at me and the tone of her voice, this is how I feel. I really don't see any reason why she felt the need to ask me what I was doing. I was not loitering in the lot or doing anything suspicious at all. I wonder if the other people I see admiring the murals are ever treated the way I was. I left feeling very insulted and discriminated against. Based on what happened that morning I was definitely put off having lunch there and really don't see myself ever attending any events held there or visiting any...
Read moreMy husband and I were planning on having our wedding here in april! due to covid circumstances, plans had to be changed. The monarch was offering to reschedule all dates to a future date, but we didn’t want to have our event there after all. From start to finish of getting in contact with them to book, to getting details and finishing payment, to cancelling & refunding our event, was an absolute nightmare! We couldn’t get ahold of a single person. The Sales Manager, never answered the phone, or emails for days at a time. While trying to plan a wedding, this wasn’t acceptable. My husband and I would both call her and email multiple times a week looking for answers to questions and help so we could book and nobody would answer us. Eventually we went to book it and come to find out, the sales manager said someone else booked that date before us & neglected to tell us! She said we were taking to long to get back to her on things.... but we couldn’t reach her & she wouldn’t ever answer our calls or emails. Long story short, this place is beautiful for looking around, shopping, eating and attending other events. But as for a wedding, I do not...
Read moreSuper neat place! Its the one place you can actually go shopping with a beer in your hand and it be ok! Honestly though the only reason I even know the place is exists is because tje ladies in my family run Harmony's Unique Creations out of studio #38 there. When I first went to visit them, walking threw the building main entrance was a bit intimidating though. I couldn't help but feel a tad bit awkward because I couldn't help but feel as if it was one of them, "invite only" type of establishments... I quickly realized it wasn't though and was immediately impressed with the lil world of local businesses owners and artist that also do businesses inside if The Monarch! Its a definite must visit no matter what your into. They had a band playing the last time was there and were even selling alcohol. Its a pretty neat experience just walking...
