I never write reviews. When I do, I have either had an incredibly awesome experience or a really bad experience. I think good and bad feedback are important for owners to see for their company to grow and improve. I came in yesterday with my family from Boise around 2:30 pm to celebrate by mom's 73rd birthday. It was the day after Christmas, and it was busy for the two servers working and the GM who was also taking tables. They were seriously understaffed. We waited about 15 minutes to be greeted and when the food finally came out it looked like it had been sitting under the heat lamps for 45 minutes. My burger was disgusting. The burger and bacon were dried out and overcooked. I seriously can't put into words what the cheese looked like. All the veggies on the burger were rubbery and lifeless. I looked at everyone else's food, and it just didn't look good. Our server was amazing and was doing her best with all her tables. She was seriously in the weeds. She almost looked embarrassed dropping our sub-par food, praying that we didn't complain and send it back. I was a front of the house server and manager for 15 years and have been in sales and customer service for 34 years. As a server, I would have been embarrassed to drop this food. The kicker is I used to work for Union Grill pre- pandemic, so I am very aware what great food and service should be. You raised your prices, but the quality and care are lacking. I understand that the hospitality industry has been impacted by the pandemic and professional servers, cooks are hard to find, but that excuse is tired. You were understaffed when I worked there pre-pandemic 2019. Look inward. Union Grill has a ton of potential. It's in a fantastic location with a great ambiance, backed by owners that I believe care about the customer experience and positive word of mouth. I really enjoyed working for this company, but am concerned that that Union Grill is not staffing accordingly and management is not watching the food that is coming out. I know the quality and service that Union Grill is capable of and hope...
Read moreWe were seated quickly but it took 15 minutes for anyone to stop by and take our drink order. It was lunchtime and the place was not very busy. Once the waitress finally stopped at the table, we ordered apps and entrees at the same time to avoid having to wait between getting our drinks and placing our order.
We ordered the calamari which was served with buffalo hot sauce (?!?) and a dill tarter sauce. Neither was particularly inspiring and did nothing to elevate the dish.
The side salad was served at the same time as the apps, which was fine, but consisted of iceberg lettuce topped with a single cucumber slice and a cherry tomato. One of the worst side salads I've had in a long time.
Continuing on to the entrees, we ordered the ribs and a burger that had beer battered onion rings, bacon and bleu cheese.
The ribs were dry and tasted like they had been boiled before being cooked in the oven. The seasoning was bland and did nothing to cover up the boiled water taste of the ribs. They were served with red potatoes which appeared and tasted like they were simply boiled, halved and served. They also came with a side of beans that we each took one bite of and tossed to the side as they tasted like they were from a can and simply reheated.
The burger was the highlight of the meal but, sadly, also wasn't anything to brag about. The brioche bun was nicely buttered and grilled and the bleu cheese was flavorful when paired with the thick slices of bacon. Unfortunately, the patty itself was overcooked and the tomatoes were not quite ripe and lacked color and flavor. When combined with the iceberg lettuce, the addition of the vegetables to the burger left much to be desired and detracted from what was already a mediocre hamburger.
We left without trying a dessert. Overall, the atmosphere was nice but not nice enough to elevate the...
Read moreWe went in tonight for a dinner just me n my girls. We walked in and we’re seated quickly. We sat at our table with no greet for 15 minutes. Now I know this because I had called my daughter to let her know where to go. So the server comes up we place our entire order and wait for our appetizer which never comes. My daughter gets her French onion soup and then She brings out the entrees when I ask her if the appetizer is coming she looks at us like what appetizer. She gets that in and we eat the Cajun pasta and it was flavorless. The appetizer comes and she sets it down and says nothing. Now I have been a server for 18 years. I’m one of the most understanding customers. However the manager I assume Carlos saw us sitting there while he was watching the football game and visiting with another customer and still didn’t have someone greet us and at least get waters or let us know someone would be right with us. It was crazy! I also understand that things can be forgotten but to not apologize and just set the appetizer down and walk away. I was like wow we must really be inconveniencing her. We didn’t bother speaking with the manager because why would he care the game was on. We sat and waited for our check and as a new couple walked in we watched as they sat there for 10 minutes no help. He finally starting waving his arms around with disgust because no one was helping them. I felt like is this normal??? We usually like the food and service. But man I couldn’t believe how much you felt like you didn’t matter in this place. With so many options to go to in Ogden I really hope they can fix how they’re customers perceive the experience and give them a second chance. I’m not sure I will ever go...
