My man & I love this place. He introduced me to this place in May & since then, we make it a point to explore yummy restaurants near it. That way we put our name in at a restaurant & get an hour to kill, searching one of the coolest thrift stores you’ll come across...especially anywhere around here. It’s a mish mosh of randomness that I absolutely love. Take a trip & you are sure to have walks down memory lane, as you find things you haven’t seen since a child. If you don’t want to remember your childhood...I get it, feel free to check out all they have & buy something for your favorite little person. Lots of stuff is still in the boxes & is just as good as buying from home goods...except shopping at Philly AIDS Thrift is for a great cause. Do yourself a favor & check it out! 😉👍🏼👍🏼

Have been coming here for at least seven years. Nothing beats it. I go to Buffalo for something different. I am playing like a long game of strip tag with this place. I bring at least three bags of clothing (90% from previous excursions here) when I come to shop. It is just something so enthralling to me. Because I dont buy first hand and here get to mb n run free. My husband and i... the dedication and love we had for the place brought us together when we first met. And it continues to be a outing, a melting, we get to experience together. It is also the best place for a painter to get cheap canvases. There are always paintings people did at Painting with a Twist and then threw away. I don't feel bad painting over those.

I donated a decent number of clothes and toys to Philly Aids Thrift and the process was very efficient and smooth. I called ahead to check until what time they were accepting donations and also informed them I’d be coming with a few bags of clothes. When I arrived, I let them know I where I parked and a staff member quickly offloaded my bags and brought them inside. They gave me a slip for tax purposes and I was on my way in a matter of minutes. (I counted my items prior.) Overall, I had a great experience donating to this store and I will be coming back again (next time to shop - they had some very cool items displayed!)

10 / 10 would do again!

Tucked away on Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia, Philly AIDS Thrift is not just a thrift store but a heartwarming symbol of compassion, community, and a relentless fight against HIV/AIDS. My recent visit to this unique establishment left me inspired, and I'm excited to share my experience with you.

Ambiance: 4/5

The moment I walked through the door, I was greeted by a treasure trove of secondhand goods. The space is well-organized, and the eclectic decor gives it a cozy, welcoming feel. Philly AIDS Thrift doesn't have the polished atmosphere of a high-end boutique, but that's not the point. The charm here lies in its authenticity and the sense of community that permeates every corner.

Service: 4.5/5

The staff at Philly AIDS Thrift is a team of dedicated and friendly individuals who are more than willing to assist shoppers. They exemplify the store's mission of compassion and inclusivity. The emphasis on service, combined with their commitment to the cause, makes the experience truly special.

The Cause: 5/5

What sets Philly AIDS Thrift apart is its mission. All proceeds from the store go to local organizations dedicated to supporting individuals living with HIV/AIDS. This noble cause underpins every aspect of the store, making it more than just a place to shop. It's a place where you can feel good about every purchase you make. The impact of your shopping goes far beyond your closet; it extends to the lives of those in need.

Unique Finds: 4/5

Philly AIDS Thrift offers a wide variety of secondhand items, from clothing to books, furniture, and knick-knacks. While you might not always find exactly what you're looking for, part of the thrill is stumbling upon unique and unexpected treasures. It's the kind of place where vintage gems and one-of-a-kind pieces often make their way into your hands.

Affordability: 4/5

The prices at Philly AIDS Thrift are generally reasonable and competitive for a thrift store. However, the quality of items varies, so some may require a discerning eye to spot the true gems among the selections.

Cons: 3.5/5

One aspect that might deter some shoppers is the limited space. Given the popularity of the store and the constant influx of donations, it can get a bit crowded and overwhelming during peak hours. But this is a small inconvenience when you consider the tremendous good the store does.

In conclusion, Philly AIDS Thrift on Passyunk Avenue is more than just a thrift store; it's a place where compassion and community converge. The welcoming atmosphere, dedicated staff, and the opportunity to support a vital cause make it an experience worth having. While it may not have the grandeur of high-end retail, it has something far more precious: the power to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS. It's a gem that Philly should be proud to call its own, and every visit is a step towards a brighter...

DO NOT BRING KIDS OR ANYONE HERE!

Let me start off by saying that my recent visit to this thrift store was an absolute disaster. As a customer seeking a normal thrift store experience, I was utterly appalled by the theme that consumed EVERY SINGLE INCH of this place. It felt like walking into a bad acid trip gone wrong, with no escape from the overwhelming assault on my senses.

First off, the store's theme was obnoxiously in your face. Every corner I turned, there were garish decorations, loud music blaring, and employees dressed like they were characters in a low-budget B-movie. I get it, some thrift stores have their own unique vibe, but this was way over the top. It was as if they were trying to force-feed me their eccentricity, leaving me longing for a simpler, more traditional thrift experience.

But the worst part, and I cannot stress this enough, was the horrifying and utterly inappropriate content that was on full display. Right there, for anyone to see, including innocent children who happened to be in the store, were pornographic and adult materials, scattered throughout the shelves without any discretion. I was appalled, disgusted, and frankly, disturbed. Thrift shopping is supposed to be a family-friendly activity, not a twisted peep show.

What kind of thrift store thinks it's acceptable to subject unsuspecting customers to such explicit content? It's beyond comprehension. I understand that people donate a wide variety of items, but it is the store's responsibility to curate and filter what they put out for sale. This complete lack of oversight and disregard for the well-being of their customers is unforgivable.I left the store feeling violated, with an uneasy feeling that stuck with me for the rest of the day. It's one thing to have a themed thrift store, but it's an entirely different story when that theme involves sexual and explicit material. I strongly urge parents and anyone with a sense of decency to steer clear of this establishment.

In conclusion, my visit to this thrift store was a nightmare I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. The overwhelming and relentless theme, coupled with the open display of pornographic and adult content, made for an experience that left me feeling violated and disgusted. If you value your sanity and want a normal thrift store experience, I implore you to find another place to shop. Trust me; it's not worth the...

Love love love this place. True gems are to be found here but you gotta be prepared to so some digging and you too will have an ah ha moment as you find things you have to have but did not know you needed. They have it all. Furniture, men's and women's and children's clothes. Hand bags and back packs and suitcases oh my. OMG. They have shoes. Wonderful terrific shoes. They even have jewellery and kitchen ware and an electronics area with some pretty cool finds. There is even a grand piano for sale and the price is right. The piano is not cheap but perhaps for a baby grand its tots worth it. All in all its value city. They have dollar bins people. Dollar bins. A word of advice. It can get a little muggy in there. All those people looking, digging, finding and then dancing the i found it dance. Its a unique improvisational dance that involves a presentation of the found item to whoever is around you and a little two step stomp and a little funky chicken. Well for me anyway. Another word of advice to you shopaholics and hoarders. Be careful or you may need an intervention because it's so easy to get carried away here. Ask yourself. Do I want this? Do I need this? Can i live without this? Do I have this already have this? Then when you got your pile going do this Q&A one more time. Lime green bell bottoms are perhaps a must have article of clothing for the fahion forward but it may not be the easiest thing to match up to the rest of your wardrobe if it's a go then buy people buy buy buy. If you have read this far you are as kooky as I am so here's the best thing. Free bins. Yes folks free bins. Sometimes its books and plates and other times pure retail gold. I got a working laptop out of their with a power cord. It was a few years old but still current and started up and it's still running and that makes me want to dance...
