I stayed here for a legal convention and it was a beautiful venue, each room our events took place in were lovely. However, the lodgings were terrible. My room was very run down and left much to be desired. the lock on my door was only half attached due to a crack in the wall that made the second screw holding it in place fall out. The window also did not close on the left side all the way which seemed to be due to the rubber seal getting stuck. There were odd stains everywhere including on the lampshades, walls, and the lounge chair in the room. There was also a hole in the wall paper that looked to have been intentionally cut directly across the night table from the bed. The shower had very good water pressure but did not look clean enough for me to want to get in it and there was soap scum or mold on the corner of the tub. There was also mold on the window frame above the vent. The vent seemed to be the only aur conditioning and did not cool my room to below 70 degrees based on what I felt. I was often sweating just sitting in the room with the AC set to 60. I could not figure out how the shower worked as the plug to switch it from tub to shower would not stay up and immediate fell back to the tub setting every try. I called room service about this issue and after 30 minutes, they sent up two men to help me (a single young woman traveling alone). I felt very uncomfortable about that situation and felt the hotel should have sent at least one woman up. I also ordered room service during my stay. I ordered a plain burger with fries and did not realize their fries come automatically with cheese on them, so I had to send them back. The burger was also so juicy that before the food made it upstairs to me, the bun was already soggy. They also did not have regular ketchup and only had seasoned ketchup which tasted terrible. I ended up not eating the burger and was still charged full price which was over $30 after the fees. The staff were also incredibly rude during check-in, when I called for room service or assistance, and when I asked for a printed receipt for my stay. It also took room service over an hour after my hitting the provided "I'm done" button, for them to actually come to the room to collect the plate and serving table. I was very disappointed and upset after my stay. The only staff members who were nice during my visit were those in the Tap Room when I went to get my one free nonalcoholic beverage provided by the convention.

If this review is helpful, please make sure you give it a like 👍👍. Okay, so there is a lot to say about this hotel. Let's start with the good stuff, Location is the best thing about this hotel. The beautiful old Grand Lobby would be the second nicest thing. The third thing is, the staff is very friendly at the front desk. The thing that made me dislike this hotel was the room. Because this is in an older East Coast hotel. The rooms are incredibly tiny. The bathroom was so small. If you were sitting on the toilet, your face was literally in the tub (see photos). There was no extra chair in the room for relaxation. The only chair was at the desk. So there was nowhere to lay out things. The remote control for the television is one of those universal ones. This made it extremely hard to change the channel. Or do anything with it. I would say if you're gonna stay here because of the great location. Make sure you opt to get a more premium room. The basic king-size room will surely disappoint you. On a lighter note, the bed slept well, and the hot water pressure was great. But again, if you're over five foot seven, the shower is so short it's going to upset you. OK, here is the update I. Spent a second night in the hotel, and I asked for a room with 2 beds. I was not disappointed because this room was much larger. It also included not only one full bath room but also a water closet. This is the way to go with this hotel. Both room's pictures are included.

We stopped in to take a look at the tree and get a drink. Finding whether we could just take a seat in the roped off section of the lobby was trickier than expected, but we eventually tracked down a waiter and seated ourselves. There was a beer and wine list, but surprisingly no cocktail list. I asked if they could make an alcohol infused hot chocolate, as they had regular hot chocolate, but was told they couldn't do that. The white Russian I had instead was good. There's no signage to the restrooms, but after I bumbled my way to them I found they were locked. Making my way to he front desk, I was told I could have a key to the restroom, but they couldn't find the key and had to make one. When I entered the restroom, I found it was a mess, the only two stalls that anyone would've wanted to use had the locks broken off of them. The tree and decor was very nice, but spending more than a couple seconds taking in the view left me feeling the place was a bit run down. I kind of get why it's necessary to have a key for the restroom, but no one outside of drug users would have cared to use the restroom that was available. This mixed with the discarded needle left on the sidewalk less than a block away didn't leave us with a resounding feeling of a nice area.

The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous!! It is truly one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed. The historic features of the hotel were truly unique and added a royal charm to the experience. Anyone who stays here will feel as though they just stepped out of the Great Gatsby. Just to walk in and see it will be worth your while. That being said the rooms definitely lacked the flair shown in other areas of the hotel. I assume this has to do with some of the historical impact of the hotel but it would be nice to see some new paint in rooms. The only reason I did not rate the hotel a 5 star, was the ridiculous upcharge for room service. Be prepared to pay a whopping 21% service fee when ordering room service. While this does include gratuity, the percentage seems a bit extreme given the already higher pricings of meals and room rates. Overall the hotel is gorgeous and truly a sight to see. Plan ahead and wander out to dinner at one of Pittsburgh's many restaurants rather than ordering room service.
