This place is most uncomfortable. It feels like they said, "rich Microsoft people live here, so let's build something to take their money." The results are predictably shameless and awful.
Let's deal with the uncomfortable topic first: no one shops here. It's thoroughly deserted, especially for a mall with high-profile stores (Macy's, REI, GameStop, and others). There's a variety of reasons for this. Perhaps most importantly, the place is randomly located. Who would go out of their way to visit it? Redmond is so disaggregated that most people don't live downtown. If you're around 148th or farther to the west, you're better off visiting Bellevue Square, with its wider selection. The lack of people begets further declines. Having experienced the weird emptiness previously, I'm not inclined to visit regularly.
The place is relatively modern, and quite clean. Too modern, though, and too clean. The place doesn't feel lived-in. It still feels plasticky, artificial. There's no sense of actual humans coming here and having interesting experiences. It's much more transactional; you come here to pick something up, then you leave. The attempts to introduce Christmas cheer with a carousel and skating rink, while seemingly well-intentioned, feel forced.
The selection is quite good for a relatively small place, although the shops seems oriented toward middle aged people with thoroughly uninteresting lives. They seemed to have taken a caricature (or is it a demographic profile?) of the typical Microsoft employee, and built a mall around that. (If you haven't noticed, there's a trend of artificiality and pandering at this place).
If you absolutely need something, you can find here. That's the only reason to visit.
More than anything, Redmond Town Center feels pathetic. It reflects the soullessness of consumerism,...
Read moreI love that Redmond Town Center is an outdoor mall. I love walking my dogs here they love it. Its never too crowded and its fun to walk around the area. They also have a great variety of stores for everyone of all ages. Parking is always easy to find that is a plus. I love visiting here with my little one. It's not the best place to shop but it's good enough. We are mostly there to let our child play.
Summer season the fountains are a fun place to hang around - the water is freezing cold but kids don't mind. Be sure to bring some cups or buckets if you plan to visit especially to splash.
I love this mall. I just love the centre of it (where the Starbucks and See's are) because the vibe is so lovely. I love that it's an outdoor mall so it forces people to get some fresh air between stores. I think because it's also an outdoor mall, you don't see as many children or shoppers in general which is fine by me. I also love that there's tons of parking on all sides so you're never stuck circling nonstop for space like at Bellevue Square.
Cute mall. They had the centre closed to traffic and so there was a carousel etc. Cute.
Didn't end up buying a single thing but it was nice to walk around nonetheless.
Christmas Seasons they have Winter Wonderland where you they organize a lot of kid friendly activities like free carousel ride, ice skating, train ride, princess story time, Santa story time, etc.
If you're in the area, I think it's definitely worth checking out. Whether you're killing time or just feel like doing some shopping, RTC is a great place to stop...
Read moreI love to hang out at RTC. However I had some experiences recently that made me feel compelled to write this review. Overall it's a cute quaint place to find food to eat and some shops that personally are not super interesting for an outdoor mall. Department stores, several glasses places and spas. It's really not well curated for the atmosphere which is a shame as there are some hidden gems but mostly I'm there to hang out an catch a bite to eat. There's not a whole ton else to do unless your into hot yoga or watching a movie at ipic.
The main reason I'm giving my rating is because of a recent experience. I broke a bone in my foot making it hard for me to get around and I had company visiting from out of town. Online I saw that RTC offered wheel chairs at guest services! Huzzah I was saved. We all headed over while my partner went to guest services to grab me a wheelchair. The person attending said and I quote "I have never done this before." So the employees have 0 training for accessibility services they say they offer. He eventually figured it out and sent my partner to the security office where they said they would dispatch someone to unlock a wheelchair. It took 20 minutes for them to show up. When they gave him the wheelchair they asked for his id for collateral where he can't now drink at the brewery/restaurants because they took his photo id. I thought the wheelchair was going to help me but I'm really sad for those who are permanently disabled and need these services who have to jump through those hoops to get these services. This needs to...
