Had an absolute nightmare of a time dealing with the event coordinators, Shawn and Monique, over the last year preparing for our wedding. Abhorrent communication on their part, leaving us to track them down and babysit them through their commitments to timelines while securing our catering vendors, ultimately trying to push us toward one of their preferred catering vendors that we had no interest in using, but since they dropped that only option in our lap just 60 days before our wedding, we agreed to hear a quote. The amount we were quoted for finger food was egregious, so we brought two other caterers to as suggestions, to tell us we can’t use them because they aren’t preferred vendors. When I brought up that our contract doesn’t state we have to use preferred vendors, Monique told me they changed their policy a few months after we signed the contract. Monique then began literally sobbing on the phone, telling me she is sorry we are frustrated about the catering situation for our wedding, but she isn’t getting the support she needs from her team, and she just got some scary news from a CT scan the week prior and that a personal injury discovered in that scan has made it very difficult to perform correspondence the way she used to, so our event had naturally taken the back burner. I told her I’m sorry she’s in that situation, and offered to coordinate with the vendors of our choosing so that we could get our wedding back on track. She agreed and thanked me for being kind and patient and “treating her like a human being” Then she called me repeatedly while she knew I was at work, and emailed me saying she was “maxed out and not prepared to have constructive dialogue” during our phone call. And telling me she won’t be using any vendors I suggest.
I ended up speaking to Shawn, who informed me it’s not his job to listen to me, it’s his job “to be the devil’s advocate for the mansion” and we don’t get to do whatever we want here. I told him if the only option we had was for the preferred vendor they found, we wouldn’t cater at all, which would mean they’d make no commission. The next day, Shawn canceled our wedding and told us he’d refund the deposit. No refund was issued within 9 days, so we had to dispute the charge on our credit card.
A literal joke. I get the suspicion they make their money hiking up quotes with their vendors behind closed doors in order to make a higher commission, and I’m sure plenty of people sign off on whatever the mansion bullies them into. We did not, so they left us with no venue less than 60 days away from our...
Read moreTook a tour with Preservation Utah and enjoyed learning about the history of this mansion. The tour guide had a great grandfather connection with the McCune family. She did mention one paranormal story, but got the impression this mansion is not known for paranormal activity and will disappoint in that regard. The best part of the history is that the McIntyre family has preserved this historic gem. It is rented as an event center to help pay for upkeep, but I guess the revenues don't even come close to covering the cost of ownership and restoration. While it is restored and understandably not everything is original, a majority is and it is worth scheduling a tour to learn the history. The mansion is...
Read moreWe held our wedding here and Shawn with his team made it an experience. Our guests are still raving about the beautiful, unique venue, the delicious food and the overall experience. The McCune Mansion offered everything we needed. Plenty of space, catering, a unique venue, and flexibility to meet our requests. We had to postpone our May 2020 wedding, Shawn worked with us as we battled holding an event during a pandemic. He was right there partnering with us, he made a difficult time that much easier. He took care of the rehearsal keeping our group on track and making it a special ceremony. The McCune Mansion is amazing, I can only tell you that you will not regret holding...
