If you’ve got a hankerin’ to step into a saloon that’s soaked in as much history as whiskey, then The Buckhorn Saloon and Museum in San Antone is where you’ll want to tie up your horse. This here establishment ain’t just any ol’ watering hole—it’s a time machine that’ll take you straight back to the days when cowboys were kings and the frontier was wild and free.
The first thing that hits you when you push through those weathered doors is the sheer spectacle of it all. The walls are lined with more mounted critters than you can shake a stick at, from towering elk to creatures you’d expect to find in a far-off jungle. It’s the kind of collection that would make any old-timey hunter green with envy and any tenderfoot’s jaw drop to the floor.
But let’s not forget we’re in a saloon, and this bar’s got a pedigree that goes back to 1881. The bar itself is a masterpiece of woodwork, and when you sidle up to it, you can almost hear the echoes of boots on the floor and the clink of spurs as cowhands and lawmen alike belly up for a drink. Whether you’re orderin’ a straight whiskey or one of their more modern concoctions, you’ll be sippin’ on a bit of Texas history.
And if you think The Buckhorn’s just about the booze, well, you’ve got another thing comin’. The museum is a treasure trove of the Old West, packed to the rafters with relics and oddities that tell the tale of a time when the line between law and outlaw was mighty thin. Every exhibit’s a story, and you’ll find yourself lost in the legends of the past before you know it.
But don’t go thinkin’ this place is all dusty memories—there’s life in these old bones yet. The Texas Ranger Museum, right next door, is a tribute to the men who brought justice to the wild frontier, and it’s a must-see for anyone with a taste for the tales of lawmen and desperados.
So if you’re ridin’ through San Antonio and lookin’ for a place where the spirit of the Wild West is alive and well, look no further than The Buckhorn Saloon and Museum. It’s a slice of Texas history served up with a shot of whiskey and a side of adventure. Review of The Buckhorn Saloon and Museum – Wild West Style Dish
If your appetite is as big as the Texas sky and you’re hankerin’ for a meal that’ll stick to your ribs, The Buckhorn Saloon and Museum has just the dish for you. This ain’t your average saloon grub—what they serve up here is as bold and hearty as the cowboys who tamed the Wild West.
One dish that stands out like a lone rider on the prairie is their Buckhorn Chili. This bowl of red is packed with rich, savory flavors that tell the tale of the Texas frontier with every spoonful. Made with tender chunks of beef and a blend of spices that’ll make you tip your hat in respect, it’s a dish that doesn’t shy away from a little heat. The chili’s got just the right kick to remind you that you’re in the heart of Texas, where the food’s as fiery as the spirit of the people.
And if you’re feelin’ particularly ravenous, pair that chili with a side of cornbread. Fresh out of the oven, it’s golden and fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness to balance the bold flavors of the chili. Together, they’re a duo as perfect as a cowboy and his trusty steed.
For dessert, the Texas Pecan Pie is a slice of heaven that’ll have you loosening your belt buckle. Rich, nutty, and sweet, it’s the kind of treat that makes you feel like you’ve struck gold at the end of the trail.
So if you find yourself at The Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, don’t just come for the history—come for a taste of the Wild West that’ll satisfy your hunger and leave you ready to ride off into the sunset,...
Read moreThis place was so awesome! Me and my father are from Dallas and went to San Antonio for the weekend to enjoy some time together as he has open heart surgery coming up. We both love history in love museums, the cool thing about this specific place is that it's not only a game Museum of different animals from all around the world, but it's also Texas Rangers Museum ( and not the baseball team but the state police force) so they have everything from awesome mounts of game around the world, to freak animals that were born with two heads and there was even a goat that was born with one eye ( a cyclops). It's funny that the woman who was the manager at the hotel we stayed at was a little bit younger then I am, I am in my early 30s and she seemed to be in her early to mid-20s, when we asked what good museums to visit she specifically said that this one wasn't a good one and we probably wouldn't enjoy it... Boy was she wrong! For anyone who loves history, especially Texas history this is a super cool place to go, you will see things that you've never seen it will probably never see again in your life. And the coolest part is it's all located inside of the oldest Saloon in Texas which is 130 years old! I can't tell you enough how awesome this place truly is, I would recommend it to a single person, a couple, a family or even a group visiting town for a work trip looking for something to do! Don't miss out on this awesome place and adventure, they even have a restaurant and a bar so if you're hungry or thirsty before you take the tour, you can grab yourself something to eat and after you finish if you have a drink they allow you to carry it around with you in the Museum. So whether you grab something to eat before or after your visit to the museum, there is some great food and I recommend you grab a bite to eat and try it out! Five stars easily,...
Read moreThis was a very unique place. It was recommended to me from a brewery owner in San Antonio. I figured I would check it out. Lots of animal mounts to look at and a little museum you can go through. I didn't do the tour but I did order food. The food was a disappointment. First off I ordered a pop. It comes in a Styrofoam cup and I was told how much it was. Mind you I sat down at the bar. Never asked if I was eating or anything. I said well can I eat? Seemed very odd to me like they didn't want me there. I ended up getting a menu and ordered the catfish sandwich. Came out and looked great. I took a bite and realized there was no tartar sauce or remoulade sauce. The menu says it came with it. So I sat waiting for the server to come back which they were not busy at all. All the staff was standing at the end of the bar. I looked at them multiple times. I finished my pop and sat that up by the front of the bar to say I'm empty. It took an extremely long time to get someone. Finally the server came back and I had asked for a refill and to get some remoulade or tarter to which she replied they are out. Well I wouldn't have ordered the fish sandwich had I known that. I told her this as well. She went back and checked to make sure but of course there was no sauce to be had. Nothing off the bill no sorry no nothing. I would not come back to this establishment nor would I visit it to eat if I was you. Unless of course you want poor service and that was a very slow day. I couldn't...
