I want to first state that I have waited a couple of days before I reviewed my experience at this show. The starting of the show is more a cruise director (happens to be the owner) 30 minute speech of how they will be providing a “back by popular demand” slider and how you should vote for BEST San Diego off broadway playhouse. He will repeat how the sliders will be coming out for a delicious dinner and again don’t forget to vote. He will also make sure he tells you how they are up against La Jolla playhouse and they have a chance to win “if you vote”. When the sliders that consist of cold deli meat on a cold bun come out I knew then it was going to be more of a BINGO hall experience. When the show starts they will have singing but please note that singing along will not be tolerated. A comment was made by the owner that we left in a “huff” which is absolutely incorrect. We were told to not sing with the songs and I could barely stay awake as is. The only enjoyment I was getting was from my 67 year old husband and 43 year old friend singing along to these old songs. I mention age because the owners comments were that of age on how we were upsetting the other patrons that were quite a bit older. It reminded me of The great Lawrence Welk and his shows I watched with my Grandmother. I want to end that I have personally experienced La Jolla Playhouse several times with my 79 year old Mother and this will be absolutely not in your wildest imagination be close to...
Read moreWe have been loyal patrons of Off Broadway years. Steve and Jennifer consistently create an intimate and inviting atmosphere that significantly enhances both the enjoyment of the performances and the shared dining experience. Their genuine hospitality and the dedication of their team cultivate a warm, family-like environment that has always made us feel welcomed.
I personally conveyed my appreciation to Jennifer for her managing a challenging and uncomfortable situation That said, I do think it is important to address the recent comments raised by these (1) individual(s) The guests voices carried across the room, causing distraction and drawing unwanted attention. It is unfortunate that these guests chose to behave in a way that detracted from the enjoyment of fellow patrons. It’s a shame that rather than taking the request for consideration of others, as it was intended (she) chose to be offended. It was clear the guys didn’t want to leave as they had just bought fresh drinks. Steve, Jennifer and staff remain committed to maintaining the high standards of hospitality and respect that have characterized Off Broadway over...
Read moreLast night’s Broadway outing promised an immersive experience, but what we got was a curious blend of low-energy theater, underwhelming food, and some oddly conflicting audience interaction.
The show itself was lively and well-acted, with a talented cast that brought their decades characters to life through strong vocals. The cast encouraged the audience to sing along. Naturally, we sang all the songs that we knew, after all we were there to celebrate a birthday. During intermission the staff asked us to quiet down. The sudden switch from “join us” to “please be quiet” was jarring and left us confused. Especially the birthday person who is hard of hearing.
As for the food, it was... there. It felt like an afterthought rather than part of the experience.
In the end, the show’s talent did not outshine the mediocre dining and customer service making it hard to fully settle in. If you go, go for the performance—but maybe eat beforehand and make sure to sit there like a...
