Tsunami is a hidden gem in the City of Santee located in East County, San Diego. They offer delicious Japanese sushi and selected Mexican seafood items.
I had a host of items, including the Albacore Morita, with albacore caparccio Butter Garlic, Ponzu, and delicious morita salsa, a protein roll, a mixed sashimi, and blue fin tuna sashimi and nigiri combo. I tried an off menu beverage called the "Cuba" or their version of a Michelada. I recommend it if you like Micheladas, it delicious and refreshing.
Everything was delicious! I loved the Albacore Morita. The morita sauce on top was exceptional in flavor and texture. Albacore was delicious. It's a great starter. The protein roll was very good, too. It came with crab salad, salmon, tuna, yellow tail, ponzu sauce, a thin lemon wedge, cilantro, and a touch sriracha. This a great roll if you are going low carb or for any other reason you would like a tasty roll.
The mixed sashimi was very well presented and came with quality salmon, tuna, and albacore. I recommend to enjoy the sashimi with kizami wasabi made from real Japanese hon wasabi. It's a game changer. Finally, the blue fin tuna, which was beautifully presented, respecting the fish, and was rich in flavor and offered a creamy buttery texture. This tuna is always a special treat.
The service was very nice. The young lady who initially provided, but later left because of a shift change, was very nice and pleasant to talk to. The gentle who took over was very cool and knowledgeable about the product. This is a...
Read moreSantee just got a new Sushi joint. I am always looking forward to new food places to try out. It just opened a month ago. Its a fushion of Japanese and Mexican sushi. Truffle Maguro (Yum!!! Nice touch with the crunchy shredded potato on top), Sushi Sampler (6 piece), Rainbow Roll, Garlic Edamame = All delicious. Hamachi Kama (This was not seen on the menu but I just asked them if they did happen to have it. Guess what? They did! Only one left. I prefer grilled but fried was fine.) Salmon Belly (Waitress happen to say that when we asked whatelse do you have thats not mentioned in your menu. It was real fresh and good.) Hot Tea (Big size cup with handle was good). Location is perfect. Price point (Normal as most places). Decor and atmosphere (Nice). Service (Great and Friendly). Small bar counter with TV next Sushi chef and spacious seating tables (in and outside). Happy hour available everyday so far.
Overall, good place to try out. I do test out many sushi places everywhere. I am always looking to see whats on the specific menu, then view the seafood displayed in glass case.
I would suggest for future adding Salmon or Yellowtail Hamachi Kama, and more variety of Nigiri, Salmon Belly plus Uni to menu later.
I will come back and try some more items next time. Cool place to eat! You...
Read moreI was so excited about this restaurant opening and having a yummy new seafood spot in town.
I ordered two items from this restaurant and both were really good. I don't love spicy food, but this spice was at a good level, and I enjoyed everything. One of the items I ordered was the sushi toast. It had a tiny little peice of salmon on top with a dot of sauce. Later when I was checking out thier Instagram, I saw a photo of this dish posted and commented that my portions were much smaller than that and I was a little disappointed because there was a lot less salmon on mine. It didn't cover the rice like it did in their photo. They deleted my comment without a response. I commented again about that being upsetting as I was just passing on feedback since they are a new restaurant and they might want to know about the quality of what is being served to customers (especially at this price point). They again just deleted my comment. I was planning on ordering again from them because the food was truly delicious, but after a 2nd time of having my comment just deleted from Instagram, I won't be spending any more money there. I love splurging on a great meal, but that's just rude in my opinion and I won't...
