On Sunday, July 24, 2022, I took my daughter to the new Mobius Discovery Center for the first time. When we walked in, I thought to myself, “Hmmm, this is smaller than what I thought. Will this come close to occupying her for a couple hours?”
My doubt was completely unfounded. Although the single level space that was available to us that day may have seemed small, it is very deceiving. As you start to explore the center you immediately realize the depth of what is offered.
My daughter loved the “marquee” exhibits like the bubble contraption, the excavator, and the air rockets. But she also really enjoyed the more subtle things such as the many opportunities to dress up and the arts & crafts tables. She made a frog hat and almost a week later she still loves it. We also appreciated attractions like the grocery game that challenges kids to return the correct change and the bicycle simulator. Needless to say, we had no problem exploring for two hours.
Staff members are pleasant and constantly re-setting exhibits for the next group of people. Very clean inside. If you are depending on navigation to arrive at Mobius, do know that construction is going on and you will be forced to stop before you reach the destination, thus necessitating that you walk a bit. We had a...
Read moreKids are completely, 100% engaged the entire visit. Hands-on fun activities that teach STEM skills and the lab activities are also great. Good value for admission. Last winter break, we paid just a few more dollars to do the lab experiment, which was a cow eyeball dissection -- super cool! Usually only college students get the opportunity to do something like that. The young staff leading the labs are college and high-school students who clearly excel science, enjoy children, and are good communicators. So much to see and do here that even when it seems crowded, there is always something available for kids to do. Restrooms are clean and spacious. It is cold in the building; not well insulated -- but it is an old renovated power plant, so just wear warm layers. And the view of the river, falls, and Monroe Street Bridge out the west-facing windows is great. For parking, if you can't find metered parking, I recommend River Park Square garage or the Parkade (a tad cheaper) and you can then walk through the series of skywalks to get to River Park Square and then to the street level to get to Mobius. (Skywalks are especially good for cold, wet, and snowy days; and it's simply...
Read moreMy boyfriend took my 4 year old daughter and I to the Science Center last Monday, and I can't even say enough about it!! My daughter loved the different displays that showed how electricity works, and the interactive ball maze found on the first floor, not to mention the reptile display!! We didn't even make it to the second floor, but with all the displays that showed how hydroelectricity works, and dealing with electricity, and the anatomy displays, it quickly became a fast favorite of my own. The staff that we spoke to were well informed and VERY friendly, and answered any questions we had about membership, reserving for my daughter's upcoming 4th birthday party, and what kind of things we can expect for the Children's Museum.
Definitely worth the $10 to get in, and I will be budgeting for a membership out of my next few paychecks. I would highly recommend this for any parents that love interacting with their children, and just watching their little faces light up when they start comprehending some of the different consequences that science has on...
