This is about the experience of Spider-Man being a "sensory friendly screening." I have photosensitive epilepsy and NEED sensory friendly screenings when a movie has a lot of flashing lights like Spider-Man does. This is my only way to watch movies like this in theaters.
About 5 minutes into the movie, the lights were turned off. Those are supposed to be on. Or I'll have a seizure. Apparently people were complaining about them being on and demanded they get turned off. I'm assuming those people did not realize it was a sensory-friendly screening. Even though it is in big bold letters on the app.
My husband then had to march his way to guest services. Guest services seemed annoyed with him at first because half the people were complaining about the lights being on and half were rightfully complaining that they had been turned off. Can someone explain to me why the people wanting the lights off weren't informed this was a sensory-friendly screening? Or why a staff member turned off the lights in the first place? Who has clearance to turn off the lights? Did a manager do this? Do those of us who need sensory friendly screenings not matter as customers?
He informed guest services that I'm epileptic and if his wife has a seizure because they kept the lights off, that wouldn't be good for anybody. They turned the lights back on. But he still had to miss about ten minutes at the beginning of the movie. In the time the lights were off, if that had happened during a flashing scene, that would've been enough to cause a seizure. This screening was NOT accommodating for my disability despite claiming it is.
Also, there no trailers. We and several others missed the first two minutes of the movie under the assumption that there would be an extra 20 minutes of previews (it literally said there would be trailers on the AMC app). My husband is able to go see it again to see what he missed but I'll have to wait...
Read moreAMC is the best movie theatre. Their popcorn is light and fluffy. Their online ticket system is top notch. Your tickets are in the app! We use the AMC monthly subscription service and watch movies minimum once a month. They always have the best first run movies. I normally attend with my husband who also has the monthly subscription. They pushed a feature called "entourage" that allows one person to set up the tickets for their group. That has made going to the movies together so much easier. The app also allows you to book your food and drinks ahead. We always order the large popcorn and large drink. Because of our A-List membership (aka the subscription), we get free refills on the popcorn, get a discount on the order, and earn rewards. I order the food to be ready about 10 minutes before the movie starts, so I have time to follow-up if they are running late. I ask for the cardboard drinks holder so that I can dump my popcorn in the box and get the refill before the movie starts. You'd be surprised that all that popcorn fits into that box! And also ask for jalapeños! I love that spicy vinegary sour sauce on my popcorn. Other wins - they have self-serve icees and coke free- style machines. These machines dispense all the flavors at a touch of the screen. They've even released special limited time flavors. Have you tried the Pib Torreto Twist? Mind blowing! Full disclosure- I habitually watch at least one movie a month and have done so since a child. AMC makes going out to the movies more fun than ever!
Update- this location at Del Amo mall is extra. The mall itself has great dining options for after the early movie or before the late movie. Parking is plentiful though. Make sure to take note of...
Read moreI came here with my Starbucks drink, which is Located right across from the theatre, and Precious very rudely told me that no outside food or drinks are allowed. I can understand that but then she proceeded to tell me what i should do, with said drink. She told me “I better drink it outside or throw it away.” Please don’t be rude when your job is literally dependent on customer service. I was with my mother and family so I let it go and had to throw away a $5 drink which I could have enjoyed in the movie. I went in the theatre and saw multiple people with Starbucks cups in their cup holders. I’m not sure why I was singled out, but no worries. I hope it made Miss Precious very happy to command a customer what they should do with their money. I bought 4 IMAX tickets and could barely see the screen. The movie was way too dim to enjoy and the seats looked like a hodgepodge of dusty stained seats they had lying in the back of their storage for years. The only good thing about my trip was the service I received from who I assume was the manager. The arcade machine took my $2 and she politely asked me to meet her at the customer service desk and she would see me as soon as she finished counting her register. She returned my $2 in tokens which I really appreciate. She had great service and was very warm...
