The café also offers a tempting selection of fresh pastries and sandwiches, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely brunch or a quick bite on the go. In conclusion, Java Surf Café is a delightful oasis in Virginia Beach that offers a delightful combination of top-notch service, a warm and inviting atmosphere, and some of the best coffee in town. We were the first time and last time in this shop. Service is so bad and the prices overly high for a not fresh food. When I ordered my bagel, I asked if I could replace the meat with spinach on my bagel, but that wasn't possible and only with an extra fee, so I paid extra for the spinach. Not exactly good service since the price was the same without the meat. Next, my husband quickly got his ordered coffee, but I waited another 10 minutes before asking for my iced coffee. A girl in service told me I could get it myself from the iced coffee container. But to do that, I need the cup and the information. I thought that for the higher price, the coffee would be freshly made and not come from a coffee container that has been filled for who knows how long. But whatever, it was super annoying that I only got the cup after asking and had to wait longer. When the bagels came next, I asked where the spinach was and it wasn't visible on my bagel. So I had to wait again and couldn’t eat with my husband together . Much wasted time ! There were a total of 3 situations where I thought to myself, for almost 50 USD for 2 bagels, a coffee and an iced coffee, that's really bad service and not super fresh since the ice coffee wasn’t fresh made. The only thing we liked was the surroundings and that we could sit outside.

A mix of good and bad here, but enough on the negative side for us to not return. I had the Lighthouse Melt and it was excellent, but that was about the extent of the positives. My wife wanted a simple veggie scramble, but there isn't one on the menu, so she asked yo hold the bacon and cheese on one option, and have some extra veggies instead. The "extra veggies" amounted to a couple chunks of tomato and onion, but we got charged an extra almost $3 for them, but no discount for skipping the bacon and cheese (by far more expensive items than a quarter of a tomato and slice of onion). We inquired about this issue to the server, and she sent over the manager on duty, who rudely explained there are no substitutions or exceptions, but he would remove the extra charge "out of generosity." This attitude made it clear he had no interest in helping our situation, just wanted to appease us. With the amount of people who do not eat meat these days, it is ridiculous to not have a veggie breakfast option, and an absolute outrage to be charged such an exorbitant amount for a few cents worth of veggies! Needless to say, we will NOT be returning, and urge others to consider their own personal preferences and dietary choices before visiting too.
