I’ve taken two trips with this company down the river— first one was incredible: our driver on the way there gave a great safety talk, we had an absolute blast on the river and hit it perfect. I recommended everyone to come to this place specifically. Unfortunately, today, I witnessed things that made me feel as though I really cannot recommend until certain tweaks are made. Luckily I’m experienced on rivers so my party stayed safe. There was an elder woman on the river from this company who we eventually made contact with on the river who seemed to be getting quite cold— I know that the temperature of the water was the absolute last thing our driver today mentioned before drop off: 58 degrees. Especially when the sun goes away, this trip can get dangerously cold— as someone who has been hypothermic in river trip situations, it can be a bad situation, especially since this woman seemed to have gotten separated from her party or was alone. I tried to provide help and information but at that point it was of course a bit late— I really think it needs to be emphasized how COLD this water is— especially for the smaller/younger and older individuals. Found out later, this woman went on this river trip without having signed the waiver… I think SMT could provide wetsuits /neoprene booties for rent considering how cold the water is… and how many people lose shoes on the river. it’s no mystery for those of us who have experience: WEAR YOUR SNEAKERS, seriously. There’s plenty of trash, broken glass, and sharp rocks to cut yourself on without shoes, it is wild to me that it is not emphasized for peoples individual safety since folks are out here with likely no experience particularly on a mountain river. Which leads me to the next part of the trip: the party we arrived on the bus with, they had two children who both lost their shoes, one of whom cut their foot and was badly bleeding by the time we got to the take out. Bus driver who met us today did not have a first aid kit on the bus which I find completely unacceptable running a business doing whitewater tubing. She did not seem sure there was even a first aid kit back at the office, wasn’t about to let this kid on the bus because he was bleeding so bad and they “couldn’t sanitize the bus” and said she normally keeps paper towels in the bus for that reason. My jaw dropped hearing this. I felt ashamed for them, as someone who is experienced in wilderness backcountry and front-country situations and has multiple first aid certifications because I’ve worked for recreation companies— this is poor practice. I really talked up this company so much and felt they were good people following good safety protocols but it seems inconsistent at best and needs MAJOR work. For now, expect to be completely on your own out there. Stay safe on the...
Read moreKids need to wear a life jacket they provide. I fell out of my tube while trying to help my daughter and my feet didn’t touch the bottom, I panicked and quickly became exhausted trying to regain control of my situation. We arrived on a nice warm day, water was cold but quickly got used to it, they offered military discount, we signed a waver and waited for the bus to pick us up ( 10 minutes). We sat in a pavilion and had lunch that we brought. ( wish they had picnic tables. ) The tubes had no neck rests, so it was difficult to hold your head up for three hours. The path in and out of the water wasn’t difficult to manage, the river flowed well and was very wide, 5-6 rough patches to get hung up in but just don’t stress out about it and you will be fine, exit was clearly marked past Third car bridge. Rode bus back to car. Wear a hat and water shoes because of slippery rocks, Tshirt and shorts worked just fine, Don’t wear glasses, 3 people lost them on one trip. I bought the floating string to attach to mine and I didn’t loose them. Best tubing in the area! Can’t wait to do it again with my own tubes ( with a head rest) oh and they rent floats for coolers and blankets to tag along so you can stop along the river for lunch or a swim. Enjoy!!❤️❤️❤️. We brought a bungee cord to hook us together, fantastic idea! They have changing Rooms available. Tubes have no center, kids need to be older...
Read moreLooking for a great tubing spot, then look NO further then these folks. Awesome friendly staff. They offer other water items to purchase, such as; large and small dry bags, for phones and other items. They offer to hold onto your vehicle keys and other items you dont want to risk loosing while in the water. Great reasonable price for a 2 hour tubing trip. They take you on a short bus ride to the river starting location and then pick you up at the river exit location. They provide all the tunes you need and if you wish to take along some "adult" beverages, they provide a tube for that as well.
The bus driver is great, friendly, and safe.
The river float is great to relax on, there are some small rapids, but no higher then class 2 rapids.
There is a spot you can pull alongside the river and swing on a rope swing, the water depth in that location is about 8 feet i believe. It's enough and adult male can swing out and drop in the water just fine.
So, if youre looking for something fun, new, and exciting to do while in Cherokee area, then please check them out. You won't be disappointed! Had an awesome time tubing with the group i was with. Would definitely return...
