We stopped at the Viajero Hostel in Salento when we were going hiking nearby. We wanted to have breakfast in the city and explore a little before we headed out into the wilderness. There was an event going on, so parking was hard to find, but as luck had it, the proprietors of the hostel didn't have a guest, and they had a place to park. They also said they could serve us breakfast for COP 15,000 each, to include coffee and everything, which seemed like a great deal. We wandered around inside the house a bit while we waited for breakfast, and the view was breathtaking. The lady gave us a tour, and she was proud of the upstairs guest room, which had a full sized bed as well as a fold out bed or futon. It was a s nice room. The location is nice, as it's on the edge of Salento, providing an excellent spot for anyone wishing to explore the city. As with most hostel or Bed and Breakfast experiences, it was more like being in someone's home. There were even some birthday balloons in the kitchen from a recent celebration, and the eating table was decorated with family photos under the glass. Overall, the Viajero Hostel in Salento was a charming gem, reminiscent of visiting a friend's parents rather than staying at a business. The location, view, and hospitality are second to none, and based on the price of the breakfast I'm guessing this would be a great budget option, too. If you're looking for a hostel near Salento, give these guys a try. Highly recommend!

Easily my best hostel experience in South America and I've stayed at a lot. The staff were amazing - Oscar and Valen immediately welcomed me and gave me a bed despite me forgetting to book one. They both remembered my name which I loved. The volunteer, Emmely, was one of the nicest people I've ever met. Seriously, this place gets a 10 just for the staff. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. The hostel is beautifully located, with a stunning view of the mountains where you can see a glacier if you're lucky with the weather. There's a restaurant/bar and also a well equipped communal kitchen (which is a necessity for me). Games and activities are organised daily which really helps nurture a social vibe. It works. I easily found like-minded people which is often difficult in a new place. I could go on. It's a little pricier than what I tend to book, but easily worth the money. Thanks to everyone for making it a great stay!

We stayed for three nights at this quaint hostel with a beautiful view. Well designed and colourful, though the beds were absolutely awful- so hard my hip bones hurt in the middle of the night/in the mornings. I ended up using the pillows as padding and my travel pillow as my actual pillow. There is decent breakfast in the mornings (scrambled eggs with an arepa, or hotcakes and fruit) and a good selection of tea, and basic coffee. There was a menu for lunch/dinner but they were out of most of the food. The hostel bar closed very early even on the weekends which was unusual (by 22:00) compared to other hostel experiences (even against other Viajero brand hostels elsewhere) which was not very conducive to social experiences. However, it is a quiet/early to bed town so I can understand not wanting to be a disruption to the locals. All in all, I would likely try a different hostel on a future visit.

One of the most beautiful hostels we've ever stayed at, but it was let down by how uncomfortable the dorm beds are. Stayed for 3 nights and my back is very sore (I've never had back pain before). The top bunk especially had a huge sag in the middle as the support piece was very flexible. It's too bad as the rest of the hostel was amazing. Amazing views of the mountains and valley, great breakfast which was a hot dish that changed daily (omelette, french toast, scrambled egg, always with fruit, cereal and coffee), and great free activities (Spanish lessons, fruit tasting, dance lessons). The cleaners also did a great job of cleaning the bathrooms regularly. I also loved that the girls at the front desk were patient with me speaking Spanish and didn't change to english. Baggage storage room available.

Beautiful beautiful place with a lovely breakfast and great service from reception and kitchen staff and cleaning staff and great wifi But- the beds in the 2 private rooms we had were AWFUL. The mattresses were completely collapsed in the middle in both rooms. We had to flip the 2 single mattresses over and put a blanket in the middle in an attempt to sort out the massive collapse that makes you sleep in a banana shape. Woke up with a bad back! Terrible sleep for 3 nights unfortunately please please sort this out. Also please write a “private” sign on rooms 1 and 2 because people kept opening our door thinking it was the bathroom!! Bring ear plugs as theres not much sound proofing from the road. Its cold in salento so bring socks hoodie and jackets. But you will love this place!

Views from the hostel are great. Good kitchen facilities and warm showers. Says free coffee but never seemed to be made. Dorms were quite cramped and the metal beds had the storage integrated in the bottom so it rattled the whole room with noise when someone would open theirs at night or in the morning. Nice place but there are cheaper options close by. Also was strange that we would buy cheaper beer from the fridge at the front desk than at the bar (by 1k pesos which adds up after a few). Also, they charged us more for food than what the menu showed and just said "the menu is old and prices have changed". These menus were from QR codes, not hard copy menus so I'm really not sure why these couldn't be changed to the "real" price.. so assumptions can be made from that.
