We stopped at the Viajero Hostel in Salento when we were going hiking nearby. We wanted to have breakfast in the city and explore a little before we headed out into the wilderness.
There was an event going on, so parking was hard to find, but as luck had it, the proprietors of the hostel didn't have a guest, and they had a place to park. They also said they could serve us breakfast for COP 15,000 each, to include coffee and everything, which seemed like a great deal.
We wandered around inside the house a bit while we waited for breakfast, and the view was breathtaking. The lady gave us a tour, and she was proud of the upstairs guest room, which had a full sized bed as well as a fold out bed or futon. It was a s nice room.
The location is nice, as it's on the edge of Salento, providing an excellent spot for anyone wishing to explore the city.
As with most hostel or Bed and Breakfast experiences, it was more like being in someone's home. There were even some birthday balloons in the kitchen from a recent celebration, and the eating table was decorated with family photos under the glass.
Overall, the Viajero Hostel in Salento was a charming gem, reminiscent of visiting a friend's parents rather than staying at a business. The location, view, and hospitality are second to none, and based on the price of the breakfast I'm guessing this would be a great budget option, too. If you're looking for a hostel near Salento, give these guys a try....
Read moreThe staff was wonderful and did their best to accommodate but we had to switch hostels a few days into our 10 day stay. Again, the staff was great but this is the list of issues we had: no lock on the back door of our room--there was a broken key in the lock (not sure why this wasn't fixed), our room was on the end by the "bar" which played music (loud and distorted) until midnight one of the three nights and there was a fire pit right outside our room, which other guests decided to fire up at 12:30AM which meant we woke up to smoke wafting into our room and the increasingly loud volume of other guests as they got drunk. The internet was a bust--we could only get on it for a few minutes one of the nights. Don't expect to have internet access. And the last day (the day we left) the water stopped without explanation. Thank goodness we'd already showered. Again, the staff was kind and attentive but they only had so much power. Also, if you like to have a beverage in your own room, you can't at this hostel. Oh, and they require you to wear a paper wrist band (like when you go to a concert) which felt very strange. And if you are choosing a hostel that serves breakfast, this isn't it. Breakfast consisted of bread and cereal. If you are looking for a party scene and stay up late, this hostel will be great for you. If you want to sleep by midnight,...
Read moreI had a Superior Private room with private bathroom. The room had a balcony (which is shared with other guests, but sectioned off by large pot plants). The balcony provided amazing views of the lush mountains. ||The bed was fine. The room was quite spacious and there was a large chest to put your luggage either on top or inside. ||The shower was good and no issues with the hot water. ||The front desk staff were very friendly and most of them spoke good english. The hostel has regular activities and i enjoyed the dance classes and the “wine and art” session. I booked a 2 hour coffee tour through the hostel and they provided easy instructions on how to get to the plantation via the town “willies”. They also helped to explain how to do the Cocora Valley Hike without doing a tour. ||There was some slight confusion with my breakfast being included with my room but the staff not only rectified the issue but also made it up to me with some complimentary services. ||Even if you are not in a private room the views here are amazing. This place has a friendly hostel vibe, but you have the option to just chill out and enjoy the views. I loved it so much i stayed an...
