We stayed at Barker House for one night. Check in was easy and the owner was very nice. We parked right outside the room, and it was about a 3-5 min. walk into town. ||We stayed in the family suite, on the 1st floor. The largest bedroom has a door that opens into the main hallway. You cannot open it though. However, anyone in the hallway can easily hear into the bedroom. ||Many outlets didn’t work. The chandelier either had missing lights or bulbs that did not match the others. The room was so dry! It was freezing when we arrived, until we figured out that all the vents were closed. We opened them up and then closed them in the middle of the night because the heat was blasting all night long. There were water glasses in the bathroom (gross!) and it felt like there was random furniture shoved in the room. It didn’t have an antique feel, more like someone put random furniture in the room. ||There was a large bottle of lotion from a superstore in the bathroom, as well as a large bottle of Pantene hair product (shampoo?). The toilet paper was difficult to remove from the holder when you wanted to use it. There was a large, open can of coffee next to the coffee pot. There was one bath towel and one wash cloth per person, as well as one hand towel for the room. Towels were pretty old. ||In the morning when we woke up, a sock belonging to a man was found on the floor in one of the rooms. This was odd because it did not come from any of us and wasn’t there before bedtime. ||I just felt like the room needed a little attention. We did not eat breakfast there and went...
Read moreWe had planned a weekend getaway in Niagara-on-the-Lake to take in a show at the Shaw Festival and happened to come across Barker House in an online search.||||Never knowing how these things are going to pan out, we were pleasantly surprised and found the accommodation very comfortable, quaint, quiet and very well maintained.||||Barker House is situated about a block from the main street and is easy walking distance to places like the Shaw Festival building and the numerous shops, restaurants and parks in the area. Being away from the main street that distance means that we didn't have any issues with street noise, which we appreciated.||||We stayed in Room 3 which is nicely furnished, with a private bath (no tub, but a large shower) on the main floor.||||The owner, Sam, was very accommodating and attentive without being too familiar.||||The bed was wonderfully comfortable. The breakfasts (we were there for two mornings) were very well prepared: eggs, ham, toast, coffee, juice, etc etc., all served with a smile.||||Sam told us that he's owned the property for about three years and has put a considerable amount of work into the structure and the grounds. It shows. It's a lovely old building with all modern amenities, including WiFi, plenty of hot water, TV in the rooms (at least there was one in ours, though we barely used it) and updated windows.||||Lots of room for guest parking.||||We have every intention of returning to Barker House whenever we are in the area. Highly...
Read moreWe just got back from a long weekend at the Barker House Bed & Breakfast. This was our first time at a B & B and wasn't sure what to expect. Our hosts were the most gracious, nice people that you could possibly meet. They were so accommodating and gave us their large suite that was a beautifully decorated bedroom, sitting room with flat screen tv, enclosed porch area and a private entrance onto a deck that would have been wonderful to sit and have coffee or a wine on if the weather had cooperated with us. Also had a beautiful new bathroom with full toiletries. The breakfast that she cooked us each morning was 5 star meal...fresh fruit, cookies, omelets, eggs wrapped in bacon, etc etc. So much that my husband and i couldn't eat it all. If you are looking for a great location very close to Queen Street with all the shops this is an amazing place to stay, we parked there and just walked to all the shops and restaurants. Great price, great owners ( he helps carry in all your luggage and also helped my husband clean the ice off our car. We would love to stay here again if we return back to beautiful Niagara...
