I recently had the opportunity to join the Niagara-on-the-Lake Ghost Tour, and I must admit that the experience left much to be desired. Having been on several ghost tours in the past, my expectations were unfortunately not met this time.
One of the most significant letdowns was our guide, Gill. He appeared to be rather unengaging throughout the tour. His narration was delivered in a hurried and monotonous manner, which made it challenging to connect with the stories he was sharing. It felt like he was rushing through the tales of the town’s haunted history without allowing us to absorb the eerie atmosphere.
Regrettably, my disappointment was not an isolated case. Several other guests also seemed to share my sentiments, as evidenced by the fact that a significant portion of the group decided to leave halfway through the tour. This collective decision to depart early speaks volumes about the overall quality of the experience.
While I understand that ghost tours are meant to be thrilling and suspenseful, this particular outing fell short in terms of delivering a captivating and immersive encounter with the supernatural. It’s essential for such tours to strike a balance between providing historical context and creating a genuinely spine-tingling atmosphere, and this one seemed to miss the mark.
In summary, my visit to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Ghost Tour was, unfortunately, an underwhelming experience. With a more engaging and dynamic guide, along with some adjustments to the pacing and presentation, I believe this tour has the potential to provide a much more enjoyable and memorable encounter with the world of...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went last night- they had nine sold out groups! But even then, our tour with Gill the Magician was so fun and not rushed at all. He kept us moving, sure, but at no point did we feel that their high volume night negatively impacted us. Gill was awesome! We loved his magic tricks and all of the unique additions he was able to throw into the tour as a magician. Did have a run in with a sour local, but Gil kept the tour moving without letting the guy sour his mood. I got some bonus fun, personally, from the tour, as I thought I saw an apparition in the Apothecary only for Gill to mention just moments later that this was a normal occurrence! And when we did the photo experiment of the Victorian mansion, I managed to catch a photo of some kind of moon-like orb that wasn't in any of the other photos, which I took in rapid succession to each other. Oh, and as an American, sure, much of the history is pro-Canada, but it's still super fun and not offensive at all (since 1812, we've gone to therapy and moved past our wounds.) Niagara-on-the-Lake is adorable and quaint. This was our first time there, and we can thank Gil for inspiring us to plan future visits!...
Read moreThis was the second time doing this ghost walk with years apart, first time was prior to them moving locations. We enjoyed the actor who was with our group and how well she entertained us but the walk felt a little more like an advertisement than a ghost walk. She walked us around the Main street mostly with a couple visits to historic homes, the gazebo, park and spa before turning back. We enjoyed the stories but it would have been better if we didn’t hear about how great the breakfast is at the golf club that we didn’t get a story on or the spa which did come with a story. This just took us away from the ghost walk, in my opinion. Years prior the tour was a lot darker, less humour compared to this time around. We also visited the old Breakenridge Estate which had a dark story and right across from the cemetery which also had a good chill but this time around, we were just told a quick story of the cemetery without actually seeing it and simply told to see it ourselves when possible. Overall, Black Widow (tour guide) was fantastic and would recommend her simply because she’s entertaining in her telling of...
