We booked a stay at the Old Ivy Walk last weekend for our first anniversary. We booked a queen bedroom with a deep soaking tub which we looked so forward to. Upon arriving, we were provided with a room with just a standard queen bed and no large tub. When explaining the issues, Phil had told us that sometimes expedia will book guests in any available queen room and we had to phone them. We phoned them explaining the issue and when expedia tried to reach Phil they were unsuccessful after repeated attempts to resolve the issue. We ultimately told Phil that we understand that the policy says no refunds but considering the circumstances we requested ONE night be refunded which we felt was reasonable. We respectfully said that paying $800 for a basic queen room is not something we see the value in. Phil proceeded to tell us that we are staying on a 4 million dollar property and he has to make a profit somehow. There was 0 effort to resolve or make our stay more enjoyable and pleasant. After processing the lack of hospitality from Phil, we decided to try and make the most of it. We had dinner in the garden and honestly the garden is quite gorgeous which was the highlight of our stay. The room we ended up staying in had an extremely uncomfortable bed and we had a challenging time sleeping. Breakfast was ok- a basic English muffin sandwich, yogurts & some fruit. Average at best. When going out for lunch and arriving back to our room, we noticed that our room had items that were rearranged but no garbage was removed which we found suspicious & odd... At that, we ultimately decided to leave a day early. Extremely disappointed as this weekend stay was over $800- premium price for a subpar experience. I would highly recommend looking into other properties where empathy is valued higher than profits. My husband and I consistently stay at the same accomodation if we travel back to places we've been to and we have never had an experience like this. This is the first place we would never consider staying in again if we were back in the area. I would recommend continuing your...
Read moreMy wife and I enjoyed 4 nights at the Old Ivy Walk B&B. We stayed in the first floor Lady Richard's room. The only caveat is the extremely small shower corner unit. ||Phil was a wonderful host and was quick to answer questions regarding wineries and where he would go if looking for a specific type of wine. He is an excellent cook and each morning near 9 AM there was a tap at the door to alert us that our large surprise breakfast carton was ready.||The package was placed on a tray with a plate, a thermos of coffee, along with silverware and napkins. There were two TV trays with legs that could be brought into the room on which to place your plated goods.||Consider yourself very fortunate if one morning you get an excellent breakfast sandwich (English muffin, grilled ham, egg, and hollandaise sauce). Other delicious entrees were Belgium waffles, and an egg souffle. There was good coffee, yogurt, and fresh fruit. The concept is that you can take the tray and contents and eat anywhere on the patio or grounds.||One final note: Phil makes the best butter tarts on the planet. They are far superior to some we purchased from well know...
Read moreWe stayed one night in Comte de P. room. The booking was done very efficiently and communication with Philip was great. We were told many times during the booking, confirmation and when we arrived about changing our outdoor shoes into indoor once we enter the house. The weather was completely dry and there were no outdoor critters that maybe we could have brought into the house with our outdoor shoes. It was overdone and that’s how I will remember the old ivy walk b&b as the house with rubber bins for the outdoor shoes. I would much rather learned something about the history of the house instead. We were told they don’t clean the rooms anymore they have to disinfect due to Covid. The washroom had an almost used toilet paper roll, how was this disinfected after the previous guests?? The room was clean and basic. However the little fridge made a loud noise all night, which I kept waking up to when it was turning on and off. The breakfast had great variety and was served in a handy carry on bag. Unfortunately the main sandwich was dry and the ciabatta bun could have been fresh. The location of the place is perfect, walking...
