We did not have a good experience here. I knew it was going to be fairly simple, but I had been led to believe by other reviewers that staff were very friendly and helpful, so we opted for it. I am seriously wondering whether all the reviews for this hostel are genuine. On the first evening we discussed timings for breakfast with the host and his English-speaking friend as we were going on a full-day tour the following morning. He agreed to provide breakfast at 7.30. When we came down there was absolutely nothing provided and no one around to ask, which meant we had to eat the items we'd bought for lunch and then buy lunch at over-inflated prices at the national park. A quick look through the window at the building at the back of the hostel, where he lives, showed numerous empty wine and beer bottles and he had clearly been drinking all evening with friends (some of whom had crashed out there). When we asked him why he hadn't supplied any breakfast he shrugged and just said he had overslept - no apology. At least he was honest (!) but given we had paid for breakfast and agreed to a time we found his attitude appalling. The room was absolutely tiny for two people (more a bed-box than a bedroom) and the walls were paper-thin. You could hear everyone moving around the whole time. Security also didn't seem good as the door was open the whole time yet frequently no one was around and the location was also not good - quite a walk from town. The only things that were good were the warmth from the woodburning stoveand the bathroom was OK and quite clean. For some reason there are envelopes asking for tips in the bedrooms, which mystified us....there was no cleaning or bed-making service, so we weren't sure why anyone would be expecting tips, particularly given they'd not supplied even the basics. All in all a negative experience and...
Read moreI stayed for 4 nights with a friend and we had a room with a double bed and own bathroom. The bedroom didn't had much more space then for the bed itself. Bathroom was quite spacious. Our room was right next to the kitchen and breakfast/ common room and therefor very loud, often also until late in the evening/night. All the walls in general were paper thin (which seems to be a very common kind of house construction in the town though), so you would hear every tiny noise in the house. The kitchen / common room was cosy and warm, the room itself was often quit cold (due to central heating located in the kitchen). ||The hostel is located close to the center of the town (5-10 min walk) and about 20 min by foot from the bus station. ||From our experience I can´t agree on the critics towards the host Pablo. Even though I didn't speak much with him myself (as he doesn't speak any English) he's been always very friendly, we could always reach him by phone if he's not around (and he would answer quickly usually) and the breakfast was set for the agreed time. Also there was usually someone around in the morning to call a taxi for the guests. Only one day there was apparently something (I think he overslept), but nothing that any of us would have been bothered by directly and anyway he sincerely apologized for it several times. ||I was personally not a big fan of the breakfast, as it was mainly sweet things and not quiet a good base that you would need f.e. a hiking trip that day. ||Even though I would go for another hostel next time (due to the mentioned pints above), I can't confirm from my side the harsh critics towards Pablo or the way he...
Read moreWe stayed in the hostel for two nights: One time before our trek in Torres del Paine and one time after. The rooms were clean and we had a good breakfast. However we did not like the atmosphere set up by our host. He was unsympathetic and unwilling to provide us with basic information such as where to buy grocery or go to eat in the city. In addition, the host was absent of the hostel most of the time and did not provide a way to reach him. In the morning, we wanted to order a taxi to go to the bus terminal but as our host was not in the hostel, we ended up having to hurry up and walk fast -with our backpacks- for 20 minutes under the rain to be able to catch our bus. This was unpleasant and unnecessary. For this price you can find a better...
