Hostal Cattleya — Hotel in Quindío

Its a nice hostel if you want quietness. Not a party hostel. The owners are a much older family couple. only met th3 lady and she seemed very friendly and nice. its just 10min walk away max from the plaza and the bus terminal where buses to Armenia and Pereira come and go is literally right at the front. This hostel no-one to really guide or give you information. you are left to figure it out or try and find them and ask..reception always empty.the bed was clean but dorm very squashy, hard pillo but the reason drop 2 stars because the room had a very mouldy smell and in the morning its like I had breathed the mould in all night and had a gross taste in my mouth. This is a health issue. Weather doesn't help the humidity and the damp smell but they need to put fans or heaters to improve this. Also only 2 lockers in wardrobe in dorm for 4. Must bring own lock. Bathroom was clean but again sometimes pipes led to odd smell in taps so must use bottle water for brushing teeth. constant hot water and great water pressure in shower. quiet spaces to chill. Kitchen just has a 2 stove gas burners so only really to heat up things. Owners never tidy it up so always overstacked dishes on dryer. No secure place to leave bags just in reception but no-one ever in there to supervise and anyone can walk in and out of hostel. No card or key given just unlock gate with hand and your in. Key for dorm door given. It is cheaper then other hostels so for the price it was ok. Safe location as is most of Salento. Can improve many...

First of all, I thought the hosts were friendly enough but also came across a little chaotic, like they were trying to do 20 things at the same time and struggled a little with keeping an overview of bookings and check-outs - this resulted, for example, with the host coming into the dorm twice after 10pm, turning on the lights and leaving them on while mumbling to himself and then later coming back with some new guests. Late arrivals are fine of course, but it could have been handled a little more descretely.||||I am equally surprised by the many highly positive reviews of this place. At best the facility is very average. The hostel grounds look untidy with old things standing and lying around, the dorm isn't dirty but not very clean either. There were dead bugs in the window frame of the bathroom, and although I am sure the sheets and towel on the bed (which is a nice idea) have been washed, they look rather gray than the white it once was. The mattres had a huge dip in the centre from being old or worn out, which didn't make for a comfortable sleep. There are lockers, but there are too few and the locks dont some to work (your own padlock doesnt fit them).||||The only real view on the surroundings is from the reception, from the balcony and the grounds, it is pretty much blocked by trees or building. ||||All in all not a horrible place but there are much better places around town to find. This is a rather cheap option, but for a dollar / euro more you can get a lot more value...
