While traveling in Costa Rica we spent 2 nights in this hotel. We have no complaints about the first room and the first night we spent there. We asked to stay a 2nd night and were told that only 2 rooms (suites ) were left. We agreed to pay the higher price, made the reservations and left for our day trip. We came back to the hotel after a long day with the anticipation of a warm shower and clean bed. That was not to happen. In the shower I was greeted by scalding water with no way to regulate the temperature. We had to give up the idea of showering after being burnt and looked for the second option, the jacuzzi. Climbing the steep stairs of the jacuzzi was not easy and quite dangerous but going to sleep sweaty and dirty was not an option. Task completed, we found out that the water of the jacuzzi did not want to leave the tub and we had to call the hotel office to get assistance. In the other room we occupied, we had similar problems with water taps. It seems to us that the building is in very poor repairs and definitely needs some renovations. In addition, the service is pretty bad. We asked for extra towels and a shower chair in the morning and nothing was delivered until we asked again at night . I guess they knew that it was pointless to deliver it since it was impossible to take a shower. After this ordeal, we asked that the room without the shower will be discounted. The answer was that they have to check with the boss. We did not want to spend our time waiting for them to call and call and call the “authorities “ and we left with the understanding that they will credit our account. We are still waiting. So what do you think? Did we get enough aggravation for $150 for one room and $170 for the other? On another note, while the hotel pool was great, the hotel restaurant was honestly the worst food we have ever eaten anywhere. Everything was very salty, even pasta. The meat was rough and unchewable. The included breastfast was just as bad as dinner. The bread at breakfast and dinner was dry and they toasted it to cover up. The cakes were just as dry and the eggs and beans were not great. The meats were crazy salty. Everything was salty. Perhaps they used it to preserve the meat from last year? Honestly, we got the feeling that they figure tourists have no taste and are easily victimized. Look, it wasn’t a nightmare hotel but for what we got the price should be closer to 35 dollars per night. The one star we gave them is because after all, they did have beds in the rooms. Internet was available only after 2 in the morning on my iPad and until dawn. They do have some story to tell about why we cannot use the iPads . I think it is a long standing problem but why fix it ? People still come to the hotel and there is a sucker born every minute....
Read moreThe hotel is in a great location and we enjoyed the pool bar and hot tub although one was cold.|Unfortunately one of the two rooms we booked were not ready until 30 minutes after check in so we could not access it. Later on we discovered a large pool of water in our bathroom and called for this to be dealt with. This resulted in various people coming in and out of our room for quite a period of time and it appeared they were unable to fix the leak so looked to put in place a temporary fix. At this point we requested a change in room but were told none were available as the hotel was full - at this point we were very unhappy so the receptionist offered a free dinner in the hotel - we had already spent nearly 100$ at the pool bar and had plans for the evening and all day the next day. We again asked for a replacement room but were offered a smaller room than the upgrade we had paid for which did not have the number of beds we needed. Nothing further was done to deal with the situation and the following day we went on our trip and a more permanent fix was made in our absence.|On check out I asked for the manager but he was unavailable- I asked for a refund of our upgrade charge or our meal at the pool bar but was told that the only compensation they were prepared to give was a meal which we could not use due to not being in the hotel at the time!|Further emails were sent to the manager but he declined to help |Unfortunately this tainted our experience of the hotel which was...
Read moreThis hotel was the perfect spot for us. It was secluded enough that it felt relaxing and peaceful but close enough to town that you can walk or take a taxi for $5, and there are other restaurants close by too. We especially liked Vegabond Pizza, a 2 minute walk. The entire staff at the hotel, from the front desk to the wait staff and house keeping, were kind and nice and helpful. The front desk staff arranged tours for us, called taxis for us to go into town, made change in both dollars and local currency, and helped us send off laundry. They were always friendly and helpful. The tours they arranged picked us up at the hotel right on time and took great care of us. We took both the coffee and chocolate tour and the hanging bridges tour. We also took the sky tram zip line tour, but that one is easily arranged online and also picked us up at the hotel.
I also enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant. I love a nice breakfast buffet. It was a small selection, but it had all the staples, including fresh fruit. They have an omelet station and serve delicious coffee at the table.
Overall, I had a wonderful stay. The balcony outside the room was nice for sitting and gazing, although we never saw the volcano, it was rained in the whole time, but just another reason to go back! The pool was nice and refreshing and peaceful. Lots of chairs to...
