The cabins at the rear of the property are both rustic and comfortable. They have adequate amenities, towels, storage space, and nice porches facing the volcano. They are far enough back from the main road that there is not any noise. The gardens in front of each unit are pleasant. The walk to the restaurant, store and open air lobby is only a few hundred feet - enough to allow you to feel you are away from the very active souvenir store (it should be called a souvenir super-store, as it is massive).||The free breakfast was good - you have a choice of a local style or American style breakfast. We had early tour departures on two of the three mornings - the restaurant staff was wonderful to provide some early morning to-go meals (it helps to let them know ahead of time and they will provide plenty of fruit and toast in boxes).||The lobby/front counter staff were pleasant and helpful. The work under a large overhang viewing the souvenir store and the main road. They are willing to break large USD bills into smaller bills if they have the currency on hand. Change making and answering questions were always done with a smile.||The bar staff in the restaurant (who sometimes double as waiters) were friendly and wanting to please. Each had a warm greeting and smile for every patron and easily made one's day complete.||While to hotel is not in La Fortuna proper, it is a short ride into town and back. It is a bit less chaotic at its location in the community. This hotel is worth considering for those that do not want to be in an urban setting or in one of the...
Read moreThe good; 4 beautiful pools which include 2 hot pools both with jets and one a little hotter than the other, cool pool and kids pool. Reservations staff is the most helpful, friendly and flexible staff I've ever met. Restuarant has very good food and excellent cocktails. It is addjacent to a very diverse gift shop. Rooms are exceptionally clean with plenty of towels. AC and ceiling fans and nice rain shower heads. Nice porches with comfy chairs and a great view of Arenal. Good home base for the economical inclined traveler. Jonathan in the restaurant/bar delivers good service when he is working.
The bad: horrible restaurant and bar service. Very difficult to get drinks at bar, immpossible at pools. Menu has a word mispelled in Spanish that the waiter insisted meant seafood. Pronounced in Spanish it is marinara sauce. We looked up word from menu on several translation apps and could not find any language with that word listed in menu. In any event the waiter had no intention of taking the plate back and so we had to order a new dish. No customer satisfaction available. Rooms are very small with tiles that are deadly slippery when wet. Walls are paper thin and you can hear normal conversation in next room as if the wall was a screen door. You can hear yelling 3 doors away. No offer to help with baggage. Our shower mat disappeared on second day and no wash cloths at all. Soap dispenser near sink, conditioner dispenser in shower. Room has no chairs and no cabinetry to put...
Read moreCame here April 2nd with my mother and this place is not good.
Staff looked grumpy and not helpful or offering to help carry our bags, despite my leg injury and mother being elderly.
Ice machine broken. No wine available from the bar. Pool was extremely tiny. Area looked like a parking lot motel (many other costa rican hotels of the same price look more tropical, like Las Orquideas, which is amazing compared to here). Rooms have paper thin walls and our neighbours were singing and yelling loudly at nighttime, and up very early and talking loudly again. Room was not prepared or shown around where everything was, I even let them know a day prior. AC should have been plugged in before I even arrived.
There was even a random $200 charge on my card they said was due to them trying to charge it and not going through...despite me putting to pay AT the hotel, not before!
I am giving a 1.5 star only cause we got our money back through expedia from the manager since we left 4 nights early due to how much we disliked it here. So that was appreciated.
Waitress there was nice. Nice view of the mountain. Showers are OK. That's it for positives.
Avoid thus place. Spend the few extra bucks and go elsewhere. Like Hotel...
