This small guest house is situated right next to Diocletian's palace, old town, restaurants and other main attractions in Split. Yet it's in an amazingly quiet spot, just a few streets off the busy downtown areas which guarantees you'll sleep tight every night. ||||In case you want to be hitting the beach regularly, do notice that the main beaches (Bacvice, Firula, Bene) are not that close by, although they are easily accessible by a 20-30 minute walk. The house is situated in an urban setting, so the views consist mainly of facades of other old houses. Overall, the location is excellent and you can't really ask for a better spot to stay in Split!||||The guest house has only a few rooms, maybe one or two per each of the three floors. We had the top floor unit which simply put was excellent. The room is quite small but still very adequate (about 3 * 4 m in floor plan) and consists of a large bed, a small "kitchenette" (table with a mini-fridge underneath, water heater, some cups, plates etc.) and a nice modern bathroom. The AC unit seemed new and worked very well to keep the room cool without much noise at all. There could be more utensils though (we had two knives but no forks or spoons?) and overall the kitchen department was lacking a bit (more on that later). Wifi connection was really good, which I'm sure is important for most of us these days.||||In this room there's also a fantastic little patio outside this room which gets great afternoon sun, where two people can enjoy breakfast, have a few beers or just chill out. Both the house and the room seemed to be recently renovated, the building standing out as one of the only renovated ones in the old town, with nice white walls, new windows and such. ||||The furniture (mostly IKEA) looked quite new as well, there was just enough storage space to put our stuff out of our bags (a few more hooks / shelves on the walls wouldn't hurt though). There's no elevator in the house so getting to your room will take some stair climbing. In any case, the house and the room are both great and offer excellent value for your money.||||The only thing that was lacking a bit was the service side of things. While the lady running the place was really nice and friendly, she seemed to forget things and overall be a bit too busy to be fully attentive to the guests. Upon our arrival she was not in town but had organized someone we could call to get in, which would have been nice to know in advance (I tried calling her twice, after which I got an SMS about the arrangement). ||||There was also some minor confusion about the breakfast which we thought was included but wasn't, so check your booking carefully when comparing places and prices. I'm not saying they mislead you or anything like that at all, I just thought we got breakfast included on the price but actually didn't - likely just a mistake on our end. Thankfully there's many good grocery stores nearby so we ended up preparing the breakfast in our room and having it on the terrace (quite a wonderful way to start the day!), you could also have it in one of the nearby restaurants.||||Also a small inconvenience is that since there's no cleaning / housekeeping, the dishes you use will stay used as you can't really wash then in the room. New towels can be obtained based on a request, maybe the same would have worked for the dishes as well. Same goes for the trash bins. Anyway, this wasn't clearly communicated and could be better organized, easiest would perhaps be if someone would check once a day in each room (like in hotels), or they would equip all rooms with small kitchens for washing dishes, inform about where to take out the trash, etc. (as in rental apartments). Right now it was an in-between solution that wasn't perhaps the best. ||||These are very minor setbacks to what otherwise was a wonderful stay in a nicely priced guest house. I definitely recommend it for everyone who finds the rooms well suited for their needs; especially couples will find this establishment a great...
Read moreWe stayed for 9 nights at the Vagabundo which is really simply a rented room.||The room is cleaned twice weekly, and the manageress will provide breakfast between 8.00 - 9.00 am if required, but really the strength of this property is the position - right in the middle of the old town, with a magnificent terrace where you can watch and take part in the whole local scene. There is a baker, supermarket, pharmacy, half a dozen local cafes 2 minutes round the corner, and yet the property is just 5 minutes from Split's main shopping street, and the main restaurant scene on the sea front. The room is light, large and spacious, with lots of hot water, a plentiful supply of towels, and very good air conditioning and shower. The king sized bed is the largest most comfortable king sized bed I have ever slept in, and to summarize - Vagabundo is a fun property to stay in. Furniture is quirky, but everything is spotlessly clean, with refrigerator, kettle, and a few odds and ends of cutlery enabling guests to enjoy a meal at the table on Vagabundo's spacious terrace.||The owners want paying in cash - credit cards not accepted. That apart the manageress and owner are honest and helpful - we enjoyed a brilliant stay and Split is a brilliant City which lack of space deters me from enthusing about.||Its a young city - beautiful, with restaurants and sizzling cafe life.||And if you are a young red-blooded male there are more beautiful young ladies per square yard than I have seen per square mile in any other city.||Split is...
Read moreWe arrived to Split and went to the property. Very difficult to find among the winding streets. We told the property we would be arriving at 3:00PM and when we showed up, no one was there. A neighbor called the property manager and she said she could be there in 45 minutes. After waiting, she finally arrived. She was nice and showed us our room. It was smaller than I had expected. It was clean and charming. We asked her for directions to the beach and she gave us wrong directions and spent two hours finding our way back to the hotel. She asked us what time we would like breakfast served and she showed up on time one morning and almost two hours late the next day. She also wanted to be paid for the room in cash, she prefers US currency!! I felt that we were catering to her schedule, not our own. The neighborhood is fabulous and so convenient. I love this property, but it made me really think if I want to stay in a guest house where no property manager is on site? Asking for more toilet paper four times and waiting for her got annoying. ||||I loved this city and couldn't ask for a better location to stay, it was just the property manager that made our stay not so great. They should try to improve...
