This is an amazing boutique hotel in the heart of the Old City. We had a two night stay with our two boys 10 and 14 after a Dalmatian coast cruise. The property is a nicely renovated classic building within the palace walls very close to all the highlights of the old city. The rooms are amazing and modern but feature the 1000 year old walls, they are also quite spacious by European standards. They are comparable to what we expect in Australia or Asia not the standard European shoebox. They have also done an amazing job of sound proofing and light proofing so a good night sleep is guaranteed on the big comfy beds. It is also located in a nice quite square with no through traffic. There is a selection of restaurants in the square, we tried Portofino which was amazing. We stayed at a time of record high temperatures and the Air-conditioning in the room was an excellent and a welcome reprieve. We visited some friends accommodation and their rooms could have been used for slow cooking. ||The staff made the experience even better. I travel for work a lot, I am Diamond with Accor and Platinum with Shangri-la and Marriott. This was the best checkin experience I have ever had. We arrived early at 9:30am and Katja went out of her way to get us an early check in to our rooms. Obviously this comes down to availability but we didn't ask for it so was much appreciated. We were also able to enjoy the breakfast even though it was our check in day (our second breakfast but hey it is holidays). On that note the buffet breakfast was amazing with lots of local delights as well as an al la carte menu. Definitely better than a 5 star chain hotel breakfast. Katja showed us through our room and showed us how to use the windows for air but also quite and dark. This was followed by a quick history lesson and guide to the old city and recondition of sites and restaurants. Which set us up for the next two days. Nothing was a problem whether it was laundry (at a reasonable price) or transportation. I especially liked that Ivana at the desk organised our transport for us but left it to us to pay the driver in cash. Thus it was 70 euro not a few hundred as most hotels charge. Also on arrival and departure they helped us cart our bags which was great given cars are not allowed in the old city. Lastly they gave our boys some really nice hats as we left which was not necessary but really nice.||I highly recommend staying here, we will be back for sure and would definitely recommend to friends and family. I have to say it is the best accommodation experience I have ever had. Add to that it is the perfect location, walking distance to everything and if you do need a swim it is only a 10 minute walk to the beach. ||Thanks to Katja, Ivana and the whole team! We will see you...
Read moreBeautiful boutique rooms. Try to get the room on the top floor, as it’s absolutely gorgeous. Note that it’s not that accessible to cars (which annoyed me at first, but in Split you can’t stay within the attraction and still want parking at your doorstep, can’t have your cake and eat it). You will be asked to park outside the palace at their designated carpark space and they will help you with luggage, but still an 8 min walk across cobbled floors and with a crossing. If you have a lot of luggage, suggest making suitable accommodations like packing a light bag knowing this. Or let the strong staff handle it and tip. A little tiring, but I did appreciate living within the palace because we could explore in the morning and then go back to the hotel to get luggage and then go for lunch and continue our journey, no need to find additional parking nearby just to explore the palace and the harbour (Split’s parking situation is horrendous and this hotel is centrally located enough that you can do all the exploring you need by foot).
People were very friendly and the breakfast was delicious (you’ll be surprised - not your typical hot selections but a lot of very local Dalmatian food like different kinds of pâtés, cured fish, anchovies, fruit, yum. Very special...
Read moreThis place is special. It is within the Diocletian Palace. It is so within the palace that two of the walls of our room were the original Palace walls. The room was stunning and the history of it makes it so cool and for a great story when you get home.||Our room was very large and perfectly appointed. We had a view of the small square just outside the hotel. The staff was as friendly as can be. The hotel can only be reached by foot so they came to meet us at our car and assist with the luggage. Due to size limitations the breakfast spread is fairly small but very nice and they do have a menu of hot items made to order.||This is a small boutique property in a perfect location with an amazing history. Absolutely loved it. There are two restaurants right outside the hotel in the square. We ate at one, Portofino which we had reserved before getting there and were pleasantly surprised it was right outside - it was great. Had we stayed one more night, we would have tried the other restaurant which is right outside the door of the hotel because it was always busy and the food looked great.||One thing of note, the lobby can only be accessed by stairs before you can then take an elevator to your room so if stairs are an issue for you please...
