We were a group of 12 friends on a trip to Egypt and our travel agent booked us on the Royal Ruby. We have travelled extensively and experienced enough cruises to make the review. The ship had twin beds in level 3 and double beds in level 4. We had rooms in level 3 and 4. The rooms were spacious for a ship of the size and fairly clean. They claim that they are a five star cruise liner but nowhere dies it come near even a four star. The staff were totally unhelpful or rather clueless as any query ..even like..what time is breakfast..they tell you to ask at the reception. They have put up a board claiming to give free wifi and it was just for a little while. When questioned, the person at the reception said that they had consumed all the GB that they had purchased due to heavy use...which century are they in... Food was fairly decent but they had no clue about quantity requirements. Its a fixed clientele and they know how many are on board..but there was never enough food , nor sufficient plates glasses and cutlery . We had to use soup plates for food or use tiny juice glasses given at the breakfast buffet for water. By the way we needed to purchase water for every meal and for the room. We were not permitted to bring ware or drinks from outside. There was a bar and they served basic drinks and cocktails and mock tails made with fruit syrups. There were vegetarians in the ship along with us in another group and It was tough for them to ask others and find if a dish was vegetarian or not. We suggested that they name the dishes or place some indicator to identify the meat and fish. They didn't understand or acted as though they hadn't. They would close the tea or dinner on the dot and we found many people who were not able to get dinner or other meals. Tea was always less and one of the persons at the counter had a really grumpy demeanor. We complained to him about the shortage and he was very rude through the remainder of the cruise. They refused to be helpful as a rule. There were a couple of tourists who were giving tips at every opportunity and the staff were fawning on them most of the time. The staff were a little gropy to some women ,but they didnt seem to mind it. While passing through other ships we saw that they had provided welcome drinks and a sweet for all guests on arrival. There was no such thing for us ,but we saw a group of Spanish tourists being offered these on our ship. Maybe it was a matter of colour or currency. Other ships had a water dispenser at the foyer but Royal Ruby didn't have one. We booked the cruise with a lot of expectations and were thoroughly disappointed. This ship would always be the outermost one and all of us had to cross through atleast two other ships each time we enter or exit. I would never recommend this ship to anyone because of the shoddy treatment that we received and the uncourteous behaviour...
Read morePart of a TripADeal tour would not of chosen this cruise if doing independently. Room 220 level of foyer. 4 nights. I wouldn’t say this is a 5 star cruise as listed on itinerary. Old looking and in need of refurbishment. Boats are moored 8 deep and to get to your boat you walk through the foyers of all the other moored boats until you get to yours. Very funny I thought. The boat has 4 levels. Restaurant lower level, level 2 foyer and rooms, level 3 rooms and bar with a couple of tiny gift shops and top deck small pool, bar undercover and open air seating. Plenty of deck chairs and tables and chairs to sit on. They also provide beach towels. All meals are supplied. But did find many people very greedy on a boat and staff didn’t top up some of the foods. Once it was gone it was gone. That happened a couple of times when we got back from a tour late, food was cold and only bits and pieces to choose from. Also it is 1hour seating only and once they are ready to clean up they ask you to leave. You cannot take your own drinks into dinner then must be purchased. Prices are reasonable. Tea and coffee is only free at breakfast. Many of the pastries seemed to be a day old. They had entertainment in the bar each night but didn’t attended, did hear they were pretty good by others on our tour. You have to pay 150 Egyptian pound a day for internet and it works best in the foyer not in your room where you want it. So you don’t share they enter the password and if you want to swap with someone they disconnect and reconnect - only 1 person on at a time. The room is a pretty good size. Ours had 2 large very hard singles beds. A 2 seater lounge by a window that opens as well as a chair and coffee table. There is a fridge. We had to disconnect the fridge so we could connect our power pack I think the only free one was above the mirror in the bathroom. The bathroom shower was tiny, had to leave the door open otherwise couldn’t wash properly. The hairdryer was one of those ancient boxes attached to the wall with the plastic coil attached to the head, 1 speed only. Towels are grey not clean looking at all probably washed in the Nile! Some nights the cruise sails at night other nights moored. Only our 2nd short cruise cruise and I’m convinced I don’t like them. I’m not the relax and sit around do nothing type of person. Will never choose a holiday with a cruise again,...
Read moreWe were supposed to have been given two luxury suites. One suite had fittings that were broken in the bathroom. Even the wood panelling came off. Our bathtub drainage plug was brocken, thus the tub would take an hour or more to empty. The other suite, the AC was spoilt so it was chilling the room too much (7 degrees celcius). When we complained about it to the reception, we were told they couldn't do anything about it, we would just have to keep switching it on and off, or just freeze... The waiters and house keeping staff were helpful. The day receptionist wasn't at all helpful. When told that the TV isn't working, he promised to send somebody, who never came. Also, on our last day, we had to rush to the airport after our day trip, so when the porter approached us to help us with our luggage, we saw the day receptionist sign him to not help us!! The night receptionist waited for tips before handing us our packed breakfast for...
