To be the first English reviewer for this place, I can say I felt overall satisfied of my stay here. Thanks to a New York Times recommendation, I found this place and was not let down. The staff also speaks English and they helped me with my bags after I was very tired from traveling. I explained that did not know my way around the city and wanted to explore. The Latin Quarter of Paris is beautiful! The front desk guy even drew on a map his favorite places and helped me orient where I was so that I could get to places by foot, train or bus. A big plus.
For those of us used to BIG sleeping quarters, you will be a little (and I mean little) surprised to see just how small hotel rooms are in Paris. The 5 is a boutique hotel, more for looks than anything else. My suitcases were not even full-size and I almost felt the urge to put them out of the room onto the balcony, however, the suite itself was gorgeous! The toilet bowl was separate from the shower, which was really a novel idea. Literally it is housed in a small closet, hence the term 'water closet', with just enough room to sit inside for one. You have to be a small person at that. I am 5'4" and 126 lbs, hardly what you'd consider 'big' at all and I felt a little claustrophobic at first... but I forgot that feeling eventually.
The shower was beautiful, as the reviewer below me says there are little 'stars' embedded in the tile grout of the shower. The lighting effect is from some cleverly placed fiber optics which I had never seen before and would like to replicate in my dream home one day, that's how nice it was. The shower heads even changed colors according to temperature, it seriously felt like I was having my own shower party! I took a few extra showers there during my stay just to experience the ambiance a little more.
Breakfast was OK. I paid 12 euro for it by credit card prior to booking my trip, and then when I got to the hotel in the afternoon I was told it was okay to enjoy the offerings downstairs. So the next day, when I woke up to eat breakfast, someone else at the front desk says "No, you did not pay. You have to pay again." I did not think this was justifiable on their part. If I am going to pay 254 € for a room, this should not have happened. I went downstairs anyway to see what they had, and the maids were all complaining in French. One of them even told a blonde haired lady who looked like a manager that she was quitting the next week! Suddenly I didn't feel so hungry anymore. You are better off going out to eat for that price.
I stayed here for 2 days and 2 nights. I would encourage anyone to try it, by all means. Since this was my first trip to Paris, I cannot say there are better hotels but my husband said that many Parisian hotels offer a lot less. The room I was in had a blow dryer, flat screen, wi-fi (which I didn't use because I didn't bring a laptop) and the bed was covered in faux rose petals upon arrival. I was by myself in the city but I wish I would have had him there with me since he speaks the language and knows the city. I got lost a couple times on foot but it is really easy to get to the Luxembourg gardens from here, and the CDG airport is easily...
Read moreBooked a holiday for me and my family (wife and two young daughters, 7 and 10) and finding a hotel for us was a real challenge, as the prices were crazy!||Eventually found the Five Hotel, which offered us a suite at a good price.||Paris I have always found that if you try to go basic and cheap, you will end up regretting it, but the reviews for The Five Hotel were coming back good.||Firstly, yes it is catered more for romantic get away for a weekend rather than families, but the pictures on the walls are not as burlesque as most reviewers make out, and being honest, did not feel awkward having my two young daughters there. ||It is maybe in a area that you would not consider to be central, but you are pretty close to all the action, and there is two separate Metro stations near by that can get you around (we did Euro Disney on our 2nd day, and were at the park in less than 50 minutes after leaving our hotel).||We had arrived at CDG around 10:45pm, and there was line works happening at night, so we could not get as far as Gare De Nord (yet had the line been open, we could have got a direct train from CDG to Port Royal), so had to get a Bolt to take us from GDN to the hotel, which only cost us 13 Euros (Paris is a VERY good city for getting around with Bolt), and took about 20 minutes for us to get to the hotel.||We were not actually staying in the main building, but across the street in one of the suites.||Nice VERY spacious room, with two double beds and show, toilet, bathroom and kitchen facilities.||Very quiet and got two good nights sleep.||Staff are amazing and really do go that extra mile for you.||Breakfast is not all that great, as there is not all that much space in the dining area, and the food on offer is not all that big, so you either need to be fast, or you will have to wait as fresh food is prepared.||All in all, great boutique hotel that met all our needs, and we would certainly consider staying here again next...
Read moreOur trip to Paris was amazing, the hotel location is great. ||||I would never stay in it again, my charger was stolen from my room and the girl on the desk was not helpful in any way. There was no manager available and they would not ring anyone for me to enquire about my charger. The girls on the desk should not be working in the hotel and dealing with the public at all they are absolutely terrible. I believe the girl working overnight was named isabella she was still there this morning and was extremely rude and abusive towards my wife and was getting very aggressive towards us. Not to mention she was also not even sitting at the desk last night she was sitting in the eating area with a man when she was supposed to be working. She told me last night that a director would be in today to speak with and then this morning refused to call anyone for me. She was shouting and making threats towards us and the other girls were telling to her to calm down. She should never work in a hotel with the public again. All we wanted was to speak to a manager and looking for help we did not act any way aggressive or angry we just wanted to find our charger as it was gone from the room and this girl acted so nasty towards us as we left. We had to leave and get in our taxi without resolving this as she was acting so aggressive towards us. And when we asked for their names they all would not answer or even look at us. I only heard one of the girls calling the other isabella I believe. My wife left the hotel in tears, it's unacceptable behaviour from hotel staff when all we asked was to speak to a manager.||||My charger cost me €60 and is now gone and the only other people with access to the room were the hotel and it was taken by someone from your staff.||||I would recommend paris for everyone and I will be back but I would never ever recommend this hotel to anyone as long as this girl is...
