First of all, I have to emphaize that during my stay the bar on ground floor which the photo shows is fine and the alcohol which they recommoend to me is quite good and I have never tried same kind of alcohol before, moreover, the concierge especially the black man is very polite and before I leave we huged, furthermore, the breakfast is fine as well rather than outstanding, but, the serice quality is good as what they should be. Before I discuss in detail why there are negative reviews I have to emphaize that the floowing context which I will post and I have no intention of bragging is the truth and it will wellcome to everyone to check every Michelin restuant and 5 start hotel in the whole EU, Hong Kong, Dubai, London, Japan and China mainland, moreover, if this hotel check if what I said is truth or not it will be pleasure. I got in the hotel around 1 10pm to 1 20pm and I finished the whole process of check in, but I think the time is quite early and I ask if I can get in the room early or not the staff such as A told me the room is not ready for me and there is no need to leave deposit if I ask(leave deposit for hotel is one routine for me, because you can check my other post and in the end I paid ) ,yet, I think it is fine, because the normal check in time is 3 pm, therefore, I went to the bar which near the front dest and I mentioned before for the alcohol and one cake and when I comback the time was around 1 48 PM after that I think it is still quite early and I seat on the sofa until the time truns on to 2 30 PM, and I go to front dest to ask the staff B such as Mr Martin is this possible to let me get in the room and he told me that the room is not ready yet and the getting in time should be 3 pm(I know it is just one excuse to extend the check in time), but it is fine, because I stay in over 40 five start hotel and I know how it works, moreover, at the time, it is just 2 30pm, therefore, I only can stay on the sofa and wait the time turns on to 3pm. Fianlly, 3PM. I go to the front dest to ask staff such as C is this possible to get in the room or not she told me the room is not ready yet. Ok, I ask the Mr Martin what time I can get in and in the begining he ask the house keeping, but I have no ideal what he said and then he try to find the problem such as deposit in the check in process to extend the time when I explain that every deposit will be refunded by the Chinese bank over 30 days(I hold the credict card over 6 years and the 5 star hotel which I stay is much more than how many Mr Martin worked)during this time he told me : it is just 50 euro !!! and then I directly paid and I still wait over 30 mins and the time that I get in the room is around 3 40pm, Matter of fact paying deposit is fine for me(you can check my post), but, his arrogant attitude make me unhappy, moreover, he specially emphasized that he worked a lot of 5 star hotel in the front of me, yet, as what I said before it is just like to teach fish to swim. However, I think this time the conflict between me and Mr Martin is caused by his bad manner and I truly believe that he sabotaged the efforts of all his colleagues for the new hotel. Never COMEBACK BECUASE OF MR MARTIN. Thanks for your patience to read...
Read moreI recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately, the experience did not meet the standards expected from a 5-star establishment. Here are some of the main issues we encountered: Our group of seven people, spread across two separate reservations, experienced a check-in process that took almost an hour. After a tiring overnight flight, one of us—whose name was on the reservation and had to handle the check-in—started feeling unwell and asked for some water. Instead of assisting, the front desk staff directed us to purchase water outside. For a 5-star hotel, offering at least tap water in such situations should be a given, especially when someone is visibly unwell and waiting at the reception for such an extended time. We were told we’d receive an email when the rooms were ready, so we waited nearby, trusting the hotel’s word. However, even after the designated check-in time had passed, no email arrived. When we finally approached the front desk, we discovered that the rooms had been ready for a while, but the staff had neglected to notify us. If the staff is too busy to inform guests, it’s better to be upfront about it instead of making false promises. This miscommunication caused unnecessary delays when we were already exhausted. Our luggage was stored upon arrival, and we were assured it would be delivered to our rooms. While this eventually happened for most of us, one room (on a separate reservation) didn’t receive their luggage for several hours. Despite multiple calls to the front desk, the situation was only resolved after we personally went downstairs to ensure someone brought it up. Waiting until late evening to shower and settle in after an overnight flight was extremely frustrating. One room on a higher floor had severe water problems. The water pressure was very weak, and the temperature fluctuated between scalding hot and freezing cold, making it impossible to shower comfortably. Maintenance confirmed that this was a known issue and mentioned that the only real solution would be to switch rooms. However, since we had already been told earlier at the front desk that the hotel was fully booked (this was also the explanation for other delays during our stay), we knew switching rooms wasn’t a viable option. Exhausted and frustrated, we simply gave up pursuing the matter further. Beyond these significant issues, there were several smaller inconveniences that, while not critical, added up to a disappointing stay. Overall, this hotel fell far short of delivering the luxury experience it advertises. In a city with so many options, I’d recommend looking elsewhere for better value...
Read moreNewly opened (late 2023) hotel, very large (200+ rooms) for an Autograph Collection. Having stayed at many Autograph hotels all over Europe, I would say the hotel has good “hardware” – a beautiful historic building and contemporary (though arguably rather generic) interiors, but there were some issues that prevent a higher rating.
The most serious was that our room – facing west – got incredibly hot in the afternoon even with the AC going full blast on a normal day, when the outside temperature did not exceed 25 C / 77 F. The problem was that the floor-to-ceiling windows (which could not be opened at all) did not seem to use heat-rejecting glass, and so the room trapped the heat of the sun. This, combined with the weak AC system, made the room very hot, and the area near the window felt like an oven with its door open. The hotel was able to switch us to a different room, but I imagine that all the rooms on the upper floors on the west-facing side will have this problem, and I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again for this reason alone, knowing they could be fully booked and I wouldn’t have been able to switch rooms.
Breakfast was excellent, at least in terms of the food, but too often our orders for simple things (like a cappuccino) were forgotten. The problem wasn’t a lack of staffing – there were plenty of waitstaff, but it seems like no one was responsible for any individual table, instead all the tasks were handled by different people, and so the ball was often dropped, and dirty plates were often left on the table for a long time without being cleared.
There were some other (relatively minor) lapses, such as the front desk not answering the phone on at least two attempts. On other occasions, items I requested (e.g., ice and a large water bottle, which the first room had but was missing from the second) were never delivered even after a long wait. Overall, a nice enough hotel, but a lot of details still need work, and to be honest it feels like a “soft opening,” with too many lapses that a well-run five-star should not have more than...
