Vígvarjú Étterem — Restaurant in Budapest

Edited: We recently came back for a work dinner with a larger group. I had pre-ordered a cake and asked if a custom inscription would be possible — they said yes and took the text. When we arrived, the waiter brought out the cake with candles while “Happy Birthday” was played on the piano. The inscription wasn’t on the cake but written on a large plate instead, saying “Happy Birthday.” I had to explain it wasn’t a birthday but a farewell for a colleague. The waiter was embarrassed and apologized, and in the end we laughed it off, but it was still a bit awkward. What disappointed me more is that I gave feedback about this to the lady who handled the cake order, and after more than a month I haven’t received any reply.

Located in the stunning Vigadó building, VígVarjú offers a truly special atmosphere in the heart of Budapest. The setting is elegant yet welcoming, with an impressive selection of gin cocktails and a fine dining experience that remains reasonably priced. The food was excellent – beautifully presented and full of flavor.

The only downside was the slower service, but the place was completely full, which is understandable given the quality. We were seated in the farthest corner from the entrance, near the pianist, which unfortunately meant we couldn’t really hear the live music. Still, the overall experience was more than satisfying. Unfortunately this was just a 3 star experience this time.

Having booked a table 4 days before for a monday asking the lady to have a table at a quiet place, not near the emtrance or a busy corridor. They assured me, that ist not a problem they ll do it.

When arrived, we were shown a table right in the middle of a passage corridor on the way to the toilet and when I asked about my quiet tabke, I was told that they are unexpectedly busy today and they only have this. Luckily there was another in a corner. On the same hand, the lady didnt check if I had the reservation ot whatsoever.

We were served extremely slowly both for drinks and food, even the dact, that I orderes tatar beefsteak (raw meat) came very slowly. Afterwards luckily I asked my rib eye steak medium rare, so I could get it at medium (this is a common problem here in Hungary, they always overcook steaks)

By the way, the food was very tasty, I say its 10/8 , service 10/4 l.

I usually to to other Varju branches (vakvarju) today I trier this, but I ll stick to the one in district 13....
