Run down.
It’s a shame as the foundations of the building really are beautiful, traditional quaint Balinese style… but at the cost of stained sheets and dirty floors.
Negatives
they make a big deal of having to order the breakfast the day before, but even then they still got it wrong because the forms really aren’t clear / self explanatory and you have one sheet per room rather than per person. As a couple they made us share a single small bowl of yogurt and a small plate of fruit which we found strange, we asked for two yogurts instead of the fruit …but apparently this is not allowed. Bedsheets were always covered in stains, the cushioned chairs in bedroom also splattered in questionable blood stains..(I’ll leave it to your imagination) the bedding even when freshly ‘cleaned’ always smelt of sweat. The back of the wooden headboards are covered in dust .. which aren’t great when you have allergies. The floor of the bedroom/ bathroom just didn’t ever seem clean, even after the room had been cleaned by the staff. The mosquito nets surrounding the bed seemed like they hadn’t been changed or washed since 1975. WiFi in the room is the worst we’ve experienced in Bali, it was non existent in our room so we weren’t able to use the WiFi from our bedroom once during the seven days that we stayed. the pool was full of leaves/ nature/ shrubbery so we spent pool days elsewhere. it was VERY noisy the whole time we stayed , I sleep every night with earplugs and white noise on my phone but every night and early morning we were woken up by something like staff members talking loudly, other guests dragging wooden chairs across marble hallow floors, the wooden floors slamming shut etc etc.
Positives
authentic Balinese style influence still in the building
Full of character
Loved the wooden doors throughout...
Read moreI did not have a restful stay at the Honeymoon Guesthouse. I was due to stay 1 week but checked out 3 days earlier. The place has a feeling of chaos (not calm), it is noisy and staff communication seemed wanting.| |I stayed in the Deluxe AC Double room, a traditional and elegantly appointed space. The room was dark due to the shutters for window coverings, with no glass windows. Gaps in the shutters let the mosquitoes in, and the bathroom had poor ventilation. I asked staff more than once for mosquito coils to deal with the problem. On the last night I discovered a very dirty mattress under the bedsheet, with hair, stains and crumbs. It was truly gross and I was glad to be leaving.| |The hotel is a traditional family compound arrangement, and it is noisy. The rooms are not soundproof. You can hear guests from other rooms and bathrooms, smell cooking from the kitchen (not all pleasant) and hear the sound of construction over the fence, including construction workers coughing, hocking and spitting at all hours, every day. The owners' dogs live on site and ran off and chewed guests shoes and clothes. I was woken from my sleep by the family dogs howling late into the night (staff acknowledged this occurred; it was not a neighbouring house or stray dog).| |The bathroom products appear to be made from natural products and were smelling off, so I don’t know how often they are replaced. The spa was okay, but I wouldn’t rush back. The towels smelled mouldy.| |THE GOOD: the pool was great and the gardens are pretty. The Honeymoon Kitchen food was very good, and the Casa Luna menu is excellent. Honeymoon guesthouse and Casa Luna do food really well, and the jazz band on a Sunday was excellent. I'll stick to the food but am unlikely to...
Read moreLet's be realistic, The Honeymoon Guest house is fabulous. £350 for 7 nights in an air conditioned room with breakfast and access to wonderful pools. The steps to the room were a little steep in hot weather but certainly nothing to complain about. We found the staff to be exceptional. Carried our cases up the stairs and offering to help when we left. They work as a team, from cleaning to reception to waiting on people and the chef.
Yes, people are human and sometimes we all make mistakes. The definition of a good team is how you deal with a mistake. So when our food was not right, it was corrected straight away - Thankyou....
Occasionally large groups require food upstairs. Understandably this has a knock on effect and a small (and I do mean small) delay occurs. Again, nothing noteworthy or worth complaining about.
You order breakfast the night before at reception. When you order breakfast, its a good idea to add how you like your eggs i.e - well done. The chef is not a mind reader.
The ladies who provided my wife and I with 90 min massages were fantastic.
Ubud is very busy. The street on which the Honeymoon Guest house is located no exception. The roads are challenging for those with small children to walk on (to the point that you may not do it) and instead you might opt for a taxi. The roads are busy, so it can take a while to get around by car.
All in all we were well looked after by the team and loved the location. It's a real gem. Not a sparkling hotel but you are in the hustle and busstle of a town with a team who are clearly proud of the guest house and we loved the rustic but clean vibe with exceptional staff.
Thank you for taking care of us - Room 20. 13th April - 21st...
